The old bomber was refusing to start after being left cold over a long weekend. The LED panels on the dash were looking dim and some of the pixels weren't working, also the starter was very sluggish so it seemed a new battery was in order. Bought a Bosch S1 for £87, fitted it this morning and immediately noticed the LED displays were bright and sharp. After a few coughs and splutters started no problem. A new battery also seems to have cured the dreaded BONGS! Either that or because I removed the KLM, fiddled about with it a bit and then replaced it. Either way, no warning messages. Is a relief they were driving me a bit bonkers.
New front discs and pads on next week.

Not sure if discs and pads is going to fix it. I had a 1989 6-series which only stopped juddering after replacing all 4 front arms. I'd be willing to bet the E34 has the same front end as a late E24. I think they were concurrent models for a while.
I would replace with Powerflex polly bushes though. Not for performance, for durability. I used arms with new bushes from Eurocarparts and it lasted about 10k before it started to wobble again.
I have the BMW diagnostics gear for doing my MINIS with. It does BMW's as well if you want diagnostics done. I'm pretty cheap and in SE London also.

Yes, I also have suspicions that the bushes and arms are worn. Most things I have read online have pointed to that. So will do the discs and see how I stand after that, the discs need replacing anyway. Thanks for the advice on the polly bushes, will get the good ones!
Also thanks for the diagnostics offer. What kind of info could it potentially throw up?

Hard to say exactly how complex the diagnostics system is going to be on that old beast. It will have the round connector rather than the OBD II. If the computer knows there is something wrong then there will be some sort of feedback available through diagnostics.

I also went for pads and discs first with my E24. I had a Mitsubishi Galant which always had problems with warped discs so assumed it would be the same problem on the BMW.
If fitting polly-bushes you keep the old arms and just press out the old bushes before fitting the new ones.

I've looked at your website and I notice you 'fit anything to anything' so I expect I'll be in touch in the future ...!
Cheers.

'just press out the old bushes before fitting the new ones'.
Yes, it sounds easy when it's written down like that.

Looked in tool box it is barren of hydraulic presses.

Aprox last 2 years E24 runout actually had an updated front end. From what I hear though. That might be incorrect. Either way, the same layout and the same problem.

The Bongs, ESD regelt, lights warning etc. are a known issue. It's a faulty CC module which wants to be resoldered, no big thing.

Zombie: Yeah, a new battery solved a lot of the issues but I have bought a soldering kit ready to attack the CC module. Have also noticed the lights in the electric window buttons are on all the time. Another common fault I believe.
