Save the Aidensfield Three! (or is it too late?)

I saw a photo in the current PC mag (in the 'abandoned' section) of the cars outside of 'Scripps' Garage in Goathland, where Heartbeat was filmed.
There is a Morris Traveller and a couple of others there. I'm amazed that the owner has let them get into this state - early photos show them in visibly good condition and it's obvious there use as silent props for years hasn't helped. Shame....

I enquired about them a couple of years ago, they wanted daft money for them as they "were famous". They were absolutely hanging.

I could understand the Bedford commanding a high price, they do seem to in any condition, but Morris Minors and A40 Farinas are still fairly common (comparatively speaking) and they both look like they're sub-£1000 cars, even with classic car scene tax.

Oh my word, that is a shame... They've obviously been left to rot!!! The truck may very well be worth saving but the motors look a little too far gone... Very sad indeed...

Almost three years after my original post, and time hasn't been kind...





Even the previously clean looking Anglia is starting to look grotty:

I've heard about this in the past, apparently the owner didn't want to sell when they were still filming there as they were part of the set which was understandable, however since filming ended tourist trade has been on a slow decline and he's just let the whole place go as he basically doesn't care anymore. They'll end up as dust I'd imagine.

Ive been there and visited the place , i wouldnt bother again ,Your best off visiting a local scrapyard as its less depressing , what a waste .

As the pictures show, they won't be there for much longer at this rate. Winter on the moors is not kind to old cars.

Will, we should take a ride out there at some point if you've not experienced the North Yorkshire moors, theres is plenty of old tat hanging about the place.

I haven't been for a proper Moors trip in getting on ten years (and before that since I was a kid) so that sounds good to me. Plus I know you have a talent for sniffing out tat so I can see this only being a success.

I'm surprised that the Anglia isn't under cover, too. Out of the lot, it's certainly the most valuable, and old Fords sadly have a horrible habit of going walkies at the best of times

There's something strange going on with it though; the sign in the screen says something to the effect of it was used in the filming.
However, when you click here: linky the suggestion is that LAR 988C is a totally different car...

I visited a couple of times years ago, thankfully I liked the TV program and also the area generally so didn't go just to see the garage, although that was to be part of the attraction.

Sadly it was at least as depressing as described, the cars were clearly not the least bit cared for, purely sacrificed to keep the tourists coming, the garage was basically a tourist tat shop selling mainly curse word foreign import tat that had little to do with garages, cars or even heartbeat in most cases.

Its a real shame that a classic car enthusiast didn't own the place and be able to run it as a small tourist business combined with garage, perhaps a retired person as a hobby, it could have been a fantastic place where a modest tourist income could fund the classic habit and the cared for classics would only improve the business.
Some visitors would return to see what had changed, rather than knowing very well that the changes will only be more decay and tat.

That would be a great idea , it would be the sort of place you could have a drive out , a la Ace Cafe , but with less burnouts !!

Seems strange though, when the blue one in the photos appears to claim to be 'the one in the programme' (at least that's what I assume it says in the screen?), yet the fire damaged one is the one with the actual plate. Weird.

There were at least two or doubles of all the regular vehicles for simple filming reasons. If one broke down the other could be wheeled in without losing filming time. If you ever got to the Heartbeat display which was at Whitby at one point, not sure if its there now, one of the two Greengrass Morris trucks was in there.

Slightly different tack, but there were at least 22 Harry Potter Anglia's built/used for that film, all had the same registration.
