Hi! As promised in the Agricultural awesomeness thread, some pics of the Australian Moggy Minor with turbo charged 950cc A-Series diesel from a BMC Mini-Tractor ;D Now that's an unusual engine transplant, isn't it? ;D The turbo is not original. Now I don't know if anyof this is true, but apparently the owner had to add the turbo to make the Van go uphills ;D Runs on bi-diesel and I'm told it does incredibly high MPG. Originaly these engines are rated 38 lb/ft (51nm) at 1750RPM, redline under light load is 2750RPM, full load 2500RPM. And I think something like 12BHP IIRC ;D

Glad you found it! This is mental, if it redlines so low what gear set or final drive has he used to get it useable? ? Surely with the standard transmission it would be comically slow! Originaly these engines are rated 38 lb/ft (51nm) at 1750RPM, redline under light load is 2750RPM, full load 2500RPM. And I think something like 12BHP IIRC ;D

This is fablong! Its such a fascinating engine anyway but seeing this done with it is just awesome! Such an obscure transplant, but within the realms of an original option...
Plus loving the use of actual garden hose (including the plastic end!) for fuel!

Looks easier to work on in that bay than the ones I'm used to getting my hands stuck in at work! Bet that returns some uber mpgs! I'm feeling a 2.0 BMW diesel, as fitted to the 320/ rover 75s. Now that would be an exciting drive...

I've never ever heard of a diesel A-series, interesting stuff. Diesel tech has moved a long way and that Pug engined one would make an incredible daily driver!

Any idea which gearbox he used with the Peugeot engine? I would imagine a sherpa (or whatever the later version of these was called? ldv 200 maybe??) gearbox.... they fitted the psa (non turbo) diesel into them..... god they're awfull...... but at least rear wheel drive, meaning the gearbox is usefull!!

That is fantastic! I'm surprised that it will do 2750rpm though, that's fairly moving for such an old fragile diesel. I suppose because it's so small it's easier for it to rev.

Looks right at home in there. What's with the copper(?) pipe arrangement up alongside the battery? Looks a bit like what you find on the back of a fridge. According to my Mum who had one back in the day when they were bargain budget motors, even a normal Minor couldn't cope with going up some hills forwards. edit: Just noticed "bio-diesel". Is it a heat exchanger for warming he fuel? Also spotted this nugget on Wikipedia:

I would very much like to see that minor working. I bet it's quite amusing. I'm not so sure about the 12hp thing though. That surely would have made the tractor the most useless thing ever

That surely would have made the tractor the most useless thing ever My thought exactly Could it even pull anything if it really had just 12bhp? And if so no wonder the guy had to turbo it, but never mind getting up hills he must have had to do that to allow it to just generally move on level ground!

Any idea which gearbox he used with the Peugeot engine? I've seen a thread on the Pug-motored van, and he used an FSO box as the engine came out of an FSO Caro. I reckon the Isuzu TD would be a good choice as it's probably about the same size as a red-top, and that fits fine.

That surely would have made the tractor the most useless thing ever My thought exactly Well, I'm not sure, actually. It was either 12 or 24HP. But then gearing is a mighty tool for quadrupling power (lever rule etc. . My Google-fu left me there...
