Not seen this thread before - now bookmarked! Love a series one. Brother has a 3, it's fun but nowhere near the charm of one of these in my view. Look forward to seeing the next stage of it's transformation. Out of interest where did you source the recon gearbox for the 3.9 from? Searching for one for mine but hard to know sellers that are good and those to be avoided. Cheers! I agree, it's just the most Land Rover looking Land Rover they ever made... Lucky to have bought it before the prices went insane. I'm gonna be mating this up to a Series gearbox for now, bought it from Beaumont Gearboxes in Halifax www.4x4gearboxes.co.uk/. Used them on a lot of friends' builds, always been good. Got this one for about £520 delivered, just have to send the old knackered box back (which they collect). They can supply any Rover box you need though, all very reasonable.

Also started the chassis work... The state of that. Engine mount tore through the chassis a year or so back, so it was very much a bodge up but didn't realise it was that bad. 65 year old metal's definitely got a little thin. Still, 1/4" plate's gonna see to the insides of the rails nicely. Earlier in the thread you said it'd been rebuilt on a galvanised chassis?

Earlier in the thread you said it'd been rebuilt on a galvanised chassis? Sorry, should've clarified that; the original repaired one got galved as a bit of a test... Not sure i'd recommend it!

I love the look of this thing. Proper landy, Series ones are cool as penguin curse word. (I allways have had hankering for a blue early S1 or S2, V8 No roof black wellers, not much in the way of exhaust silencing...)
