I am really struggling to find the motivation to sort the motor out though, I haven't done anything to yet except wipe down the interior and buy junk, but the weather is hardly on my side Anyway, the lights arrived this morning and look stunning! Thanks dcw, you've really helped me out here I was starting to regret removing my old ones but yours' are far superior to what I had so I'm a happy Dave! Here are a couple of pics: I've had the new light seals hanging about since I ordered them off Joep (A chap in the Netherlands who reproduces some discontinued bits) and have made great use of the inserts of the seals - abstract art - I call it: 480 Rear Light Seal Inserts Stuck on a Bedroom Wall. ;D

I forgot to say, I got some moose stickers from Kerry on VOC last week. They look great but I'm not going to fit them to this car as tbh they don't really suit it. My new wheels arrived today, they look fantabulous! They've got a 3 inch dish and a much lower offset to the standard rims to effectively bring them out a bit. Plus, if I decide not to fit them they'll be very easy to sell to the Golf boys being 4x100 pcd! Here's the 'money' shot! And yes, that is all you're getting!

Nice to see there still some 480's around. When I was 8 years old I remenber my dads accountant visting are house in a brand new H reg 480 in black. Remenber been really struck with how distinctive it was compared to anything I'd seen before on the road. They use to advertise them with pictures of a black 480 on big bilboards around the same time too.
Good work on getting the rear lights sorted and lookforward to seeing them alloys. Looks good from what I can see though!

nice to see some of these still going, my first car was a Volvo 480 ... IIRC they'd sorted out the electrics on the 2ltr engined cars, the reliability of them on the 1.7's was horrific, LOL, mind you that car was a bit of a nail, had a lot of cooling problems with it as well, still loved it...

Thanks guys, love this car! They're sooo under loved and undervalued, my advice, if you want one then buy it now while they're still cheap Got together more bits: I tried painting the badges but for some reason they look milky? I used different primer to usual and I can only guess that's the reason as I prepped them well and sprayed on a fair few coats! I was also touching up the new RH Topline wheels and thought, 'What the hell, have some pics!' As you can see they're missing their centre caps which are meant to be full caps to cover the whole centre of the wheel but finding some will be impossible so I'll just get some blanks for the centres and get some stickers for them.

Hi,
When I was 17, it was my mam's car and used to drive it to school in it. It was 483 1.7 Auto but it was a cool car. I liked computer in the car tell you how many miles you can do and so on. My dad bought it after getting beaten completely by 480 turbo just after Tyne tunnel signal grand prix! He was driving BMW at the time and said "whatever it is, we have to buy one for your mam"! We drove it for 12 years!
Looks good car and hopefully you will add silicon so that ES is not standing for En-Suite!
Cheers Atchi

The badges came out ok after another flick over. Some pics of a wheel outside in the sun. I made a decision on where to put the front plate! And the rear, I mounted it on the plate holder, doesn't look right so I'll mount straight on the bumper!

I was painting the rear calipers today so I offered up one of the new wheels, thankfully it's all good, no clearance issues or any poke even though the outer rim protrudes about 31mm extra and there's still a good distance from the arch but obviously it looks much better now! Just got to try them on the front now. They look fab, just right for the car. Nice and angular, I would have loved some black BBS RS replicas but some chrome rims and winter just don't go together lol, plus my budget, she to small Rear calipers now in silver anyway. Also I have taken those flags off the B pillars.

Today was raining so I thought to clean up the wheels that are currently off the car. I have bought some Wheel Sealant so first cleaned them thoroughly then polished with some left over SRP and applied 2 coats of the sealant, that should keep them nice and clean. I've never ever used wax or sealant before and now they're just so smooth! As I've said previously, this car is going to be kept looking mint! Obviously, I'll dress the tyres once the car's being used which I hope to be soon as my aim is to get the car booked in at the mot station this week! Also, I have removed the mudflaps since the one on the front is missing, plus, the other one on the front isn't a Volvo one! Honestly never noticed that before lol. Another thing I never noticed while the car was on the road is that these cars have a light in the boot, didn't spot it before since it's below the roller blind and since that's usually covering the load area I never spotted the non-functioning light, it's only missing the bulb so I'll sort that obviously!

The car's not ready yet, should be tomorrow though. The 'big clean' shhould happen tomorrow too, a good mate's coming over to give us a hand. It took quite literally an hour to remove all the foam tape residue from the badges, I used some carb cleaner which did the trick with an old card, which is now ruined lol. You'll also see tape on the bumper, finally touching up them marks! Test fitting on the front: As you can see, the caliper is barely visible through the new rims, the story's worse at the back end!

If the ET is 25, I would go for 195/50R15 tyres. 205/50 will probably rub. And while you at it, put some 40mm lowering springs on it!

Yeah I really like the wheels, they really suit the car in my opinion! I know it needs a drop but I'm low on dosh at the moment Can't afford tyres so I'll use the practically new Avon 185/55 currently on the car And the big clean is complete!! It only took 2 hours with my buddy plus of course the car wasn't dirty, just a bit of dust. I washed, he rinsed, over very quickly indeed! Then dried and clayed, dried and polished and the finally buffed up nicely. My buddy likes washing cars but is a bit ignorant towards detailing! He goes, 'I'd just T-cut it personally!' Are you stupid Wayne? When it was finished though he had to admit how good it looks! Really really smart, this car looks stunning for a car of over 17 years old, my camera doesn't do it justice, I'm trying to save for a dslr so that'll help! Anyway, here's the clay bar after just doing the roof. It was fun using the clay, never have before but will again lol. Just to let you know it was a Bilt Hamber Regular Clay Kit  Only managed to apply wax to the roof before the rain started I sort of regret offset mounting the front plate, oh well! Also, there's no headlight on the drivers' side at the moment hence it looks mis-shaped. Polished the rear lights which has a very good effect indeed! Also put the VOLVO badge on but it started raining right after so the 480 one is still not on yet, they look good mind imo. The number plate looks fine mounted against the bumper, the lights are tilted towards the plate so all is good BTW, just to let you know I did all this after dropping a trolley jack on my foot in the morning! Ouch!!

We have fully functioning pop ups!!! Bloody nightmare to swap out the motor but it's done now! Swapped the 2 around as she's booked in at the garage for the mot TOMORROW!! Got a couple of pics of them on the roadside, really need to give the V70 a good going over now mind! I need to go over the driver's side again as my buddy who did the polishing missed a couple of spots when buffing, too wet to do it today though! So, MOT tomorrow!!! She's already insured so I'll be able to tax it too once she's passed!!

Right, the car passed the MOT no problem. Just needed the front calipers easing off a bit as they were biding a bit, I was a bit worried about the exhaust as last year they put an advisory on it due to it's volume lol. I should have the car back but the starter motor has failed and the garage can't get the car started Obviously I've ordered a new one and that's on the way. There was one occasion when the car was on the road were it would turn over after one drive so I'm not surprised that it's failed, it just means it's going to be a few more days until I can get the car back!

The new starter arrived on Friday at 12:30 and I ran down to the garage with it and I got 'the call' at 4pm to go and collect the car, the starter was the correct one which I was unsure about. It now starts with much more confidence than before, the boss said they were never able to get the car started once without a push start lol, it's weird that I didn't have any issue like when moving the cars around on the drive since I only had 1 battery the car had to be started 3 times, all of which were issue free! It failed the MOT first time for the front brake imbalance due to a sticking caliper as previously said and no advisories!!! Not even for the exhaust which is far quieter than I remember and a damn lot quieter than the MK3 Golf I had! So I've done over 120miles completely trouble free. The brakes no longer squeal, the rear suspension doesn't chatter anymore but the rear tyres do deflate slightly so I'll have to get a new pair. Thankfully, the new wheels I have that are without centre caps won't be needing me to buy any, the spare old style Volvo caps I have fit perfectly! and they suit! When I last saw my one buddy 4 weeks ago he said if you don't have that car on the road by the time I come home again I'll have to hit you! I made, by less than an hour lol! I went to pick him up from the train station right after I collected it I'll get some pics up tomorrow but she is a bit dirty due to wet weather so I might give her a clean in the morning if possible.

I really like where you are going with this. No faffing about trying to make silly wide wheels fit or chopping the suspension about etc. Just cleaning, tidying and generally trying to get it as mint as possible sorting out any niggles along the way. Keep up the good work.
