New wheels look GR9 , far better than the black/silver ones. Although I've always believed in "your car, you do what you want to it" I have to agree with Mark, the black centred wheels were a definite backward step that has now been stunningly rectified, Beautiful car, love the colour & all the work you've done to it so far, (Particularly like the tribute to your Dad,) Keep the updates coming, :-)

Thanks guys, I really don't know why I bought those Slot Mags, I didn't particularly like them before buying them, a complete impulse buy! I do really love the way the car looks now, before I bought the current wheels I saw a pic of this colour 480 with Volvo's version of the wheels on I thought it looked the nutz! So when these popped up on eBay I just had to buy them! But, after much thought this car will be for sale soonish Just have to get some new tyres for the original wheels and then we'll be ready to go, I've written up an ad in preparation and believe me it's a biggie! It's just time for something else but for now have some pics from this evening. The car is really dirty although it probably doesn't look it in the photos, and yes I've decided to stop using photobucket for a while as for some reason it just takes detail from the pics and makes it look a bit blocky, it seems that Flickr doesn't but it's **** to use! I really don't know. There are too many cars I want! We'll have to see what's available when the time comes . BMW E30, Peugeot 205 GTi, Saab 900 Turbo, Volvo 850 R, MK2 Golf. There are quite a few on my bucket list! For now though, bye .

What sort of mpg do you get out of this little gem? And what sort of price do you have in mind, just out of interest?

Hi Joe, I get an average (according to the trip computer) of about 35-40 mpg doing every day mixed driving. On a good run it's more like 45-50! Price is a tricky one really, one sold last week with similar mileage but lacking description and pics for ÂŁ1550 on eBay, I'll put up the ad in the near future but mine has more Tax and a longer MOT with good history and a private plate and so on so I was thinking of asking around ÂŁ1650. Again, I'll post a link here with full details when I've got some new tyres for the original wheels!

Well after 8 HOURS(!) yesterday with the rag I got her looking absolutely stunning! First, she was washed. So rinsed with the hose, thoroughly through the arches and cleaning the tyres and liners with an old brush (can't stand seeing dirt on the plastic arch liners etc). Got my two buckets, one containing Bilt Hamber Autowash (my first time using this shampoo) and the other just water to rinse the lambs wool wash mitt. Started with the roof then the windscreen and passenger side windows. Then, bonnet, top of door and wings, front bumper and finally below the moldings. Then rinsing the car again with the hose aiming down to help blast the shampoo off the car, drying the whole car after with my micro fibre towel, folding it as I go. Due to my hose which is slightly too short (no jokes please!) I have to turn the car around to do the driver's side and repeating the above tactics leaving the rear of the car till last as it's the dirtiest. Before starting on the bodywork though I brush the wheels down while blasted by the hose, the dirt comes off very easily, last sealed before I installed them in March or whenever it was. So, she's clean, now I need a break as it's soo dam hot! As the sun is still out the front since the house is south-east facing so time for the vacuum. Using the brush attachment I start by going over all the trim and seats, especially the rears as I don't often have people in the rear as no one fits behind me! Then remove the posh mats and brush the carpets with a dustpan brush to loosen any clingons, then hoover obviously. The mats are of such high quality in these cars that you never need to hoover them, just hold the vertically against a wall and brush them following the pile. Doing this every couple of weeks means I hardly ever have to vacuum the car, just brush the mats off, simples! Since I wasted enough time hoovering and petting the kitty the car was now in the shade so time for the clay. For the first time I used a Bilt Hamber (you may see a pattern here ) Soft Clay Bar. Cheap, easy to use and usable with water so convenient too. I have my spray bottle with water and a clear plastic pot with water in it. Use a clear container to put the clay in when you need to put it down, with a clear one it's easier to spot any filth in the water, if you spot any specs in it then renew the water. I used a container my crappy microwaveable burger I had for lunch was in! After doing the whole car half a panel at a time, drying as I go I went on and did the wheels with the 1/5 of the bar I used, which by the end of it was barely marked at all. I did the exhaust too and saved the bit of clay to use again on the tailpipe but obviously not the paint work. You're expect me to polish now aren't you? No point, doesn't need it on this occasion, the paint's smooth and obviously nice and glossy. Sooo, now it was time to try something new, some AutoBalm, yes another Bilt Hamber product! My first impressions were that it is really difficult to apply. Following the instructions and using the applicator supplied it snagged against the surface (is that normal?) and after applied it was also difficult to buff off as again the cloth was snagging against the stuff but at least one wipe was pretty much enough and it didn't create any dust. The finish however is glorious, almost impossible to smudge or smear and the swirl marks have been dramatically reduced but after all that work I was completely knackered! I've rabbited on enough here I think, take a lookie! Obviously we had to go for a drive and a pose, sort of wish we didn't though as the car ended up getting quite dusty on our country roads. Sorry one or two shots are a little blurry, I need a tripod really. When back in Hereford I was awarded for my hard work by spotting this car that I've spotted about a few times parked down a close. When I drove by I saw it in the corner of my eye so just had to turn around since I had the camera on me! I really do wish Hereford was a bit bigger, if you want to go for a cruise you have to leave the 'city' really which means the car get's filthy (which it is now due to the bloody weather!), if you don't leave then you'll be home after doing a loop in about 10minutes! I sort of wish I had a thirstier car so I wouldn't leave the city! Today, driving around when the range light came on (so 8 litres of fuel left!) it predicted I could, based on the driving I was doing, do 95 miles before conking out. That works out at over 50mpg! And no, I'm not a slow driver, just a very very smooth one. Well that's it for today, a bit longer that it needed to be!

Cheers chaps ;D Basically, the last pic of the car with the Oscam Stellas on it, sad. They're gorgeous wheels but hey ho, no point selling them on the car! I've removed the badges just to repaint them again, don't worry they are going back on the car! I've been doing a lot of thinking and checking insurance etc and it does seem a change of Vehicle may be more difficult than I hoped. Basically, anything I'm looking at will increase my premium except for dull little things obviously! A 1.6 E30 for example adds over ÂŁ100 to my deal! No chance! There is one though, the V70. My insurer gives quite generous discounts for length of ownership (hence the 480 being cheap for me). I have considered the V70 without mentioning, but the fact it's cheaper for me to insure than the 480 is a big turn on! We've had it over 6 years now, 24-04-2007 apparently! The issue though is that if I was to get it out for a play again is that all the 480 money would disappear on silly upgrades, a ÂŁ1600 set of Intrax RSA Coilovers for example! I don't know, I'll just have to see how things are once/if the 480 goes. Yesterday and today however I was busy cleaning up the wheels to put on it, which I went to have done today. They are easily my favourite of the standard wheels!

Don't forget a Peugeot 406, Merc CLK or a BMW e46...
All of them are quicker and more reliable than a 480, but not as special.

Lovely pics. Lovely car. But you will know when it's time for a change.
If you're after a 90's coupe, have you considered the Celica GT4?

I'm young so insurance is a right curse word for me. I'm not too worried about stories of poor reliability, 480 being a good example because this one is 100% reliable! I believe that when cars get older they're pretty much as good/as poor as each other. If that makes sense... :/ I am really liking the Alfa 916 at the moment. Ok, it's not really retro (not even slightly!) but they are flipping gorgeous! Not keen on E46s, bad image, too modern (so is all the other stuff reall!), don't really like the E36 much even though one was my first (sort of) car! 406s, hmmm... pretty but rather bland. Not too keen on J stuff, wouldn't mind a Prelude I guess, not a fan of Celicas sorry, not sure why though :? I may not be able to even sell my 480, we'll have to see

Been busy cleaning the car up again, this time ready for the for sale photos. First though, have some pics I took Tuesday evening in the outskirts of Ross-on-Wye. Wanted to get one in the centre of the town but there were too many cars around . After a few hours working on the car I've got a great headache! It looks fab though! My show plates came yesterday too, if only I could drive it with them on lol Here's the shine on the bonnet, still not finished! Will be finished and listed officially tomorrow (Unless it falls victim to those pesky gulls!)

So, here's my last post in this thread. I thought I'd tell you what I done with the money and the space on the drive After selling Poppy to Michael from Newcastle on 25/07 I got looking on eBay and ended up winning something and collecting it on the 28th. Bearing in mind, I was after something older and more retro like a BMW E30 for example it will come as a surprise I'm sure to hear that I bought the newest car I've ever owned. A 2002 Volvo C70 T5 Coupé Manual! So far it's been a joy to own and there's no denying it's a much better car than the 480 but I do miss her charm I'm sure I'll own another some day. When I got the car it had Silver Comets on it with the roof already being vinyl wrapped earlier this year so I put my Dark Comets on it off my V70 as I thought they'd suite it better! Also got hold of a cheap eggcrate grill and nicked some other bits off the V70 like a strut brace and an air filter. Here are some pics I took on Sunday after a thorough clean up... Thanks all....
