British built in the early 70s, rear engined, lightweight glasfibre body, swoopy styling and a chassis that can take a bit of tuning. Whats not to love about these? Based on an Imp runing gear, and initially available built or in kit form, they were a touch on the dear side when first released. Chrysler strikes and various economic issues in the early 70s condemned them to a short production run, and various plans to remould and reproduce them have fallen somewhat short... Rear bonnet opens pretty cool, and they respond very well to arch/stance: Fancy one? Best start scouring hard, starting here: clanownersclub.com/...cos it looks like they are getting quite rare now

My boss has got one of these (in a right state, but pretty complete). Sat pretty much on the floor at the moment but I believe it's been a hillclimber in the past. Will try and get some photos at some point, it's sheeted up in a corner of a barn surrounded by tat and a girt big lorry so it'll have to wait 'till we next have a shuffle around in there.

Production later moved to North Down in Northern Ireland, but not many were built (mostly Clovers, the Alfasud based ones) before more shenanighans made that operation go down the tubes too. IIRC.
I seem to remember an auction locally during the 90s when a handful of bodyshells cropped up.

There's a Clan sat in a garden not far from me. It's not moved for a few years...

the last of the clovers was no where near as good looking as the early clans!! and indeed there are a few brand new shells still about N.I aswell

Always had a soft spot for these. They come up for sale occasionally, though I haven't seen one for a while. I definitely prefer the G-15, that is a car I would definitely like to have.

How did I not know these were later built in my hometown! Now I realise why I saw so many when younger!
Will have a hunt around and see what I can find.
Crossle sports/racing cars are based about 5 miles away too!

I wonder with the BIVA changing the game a little, if classic old kit cars will start to gain in popularity and value as some of them must be getting pretty rare now. I've never owned any kind of kit car but some of them are quite appealing now.

How did I not know these were later built in my hometown! That means your hometown is also my hometown! ;D I sold a new Range Rover to the then owner of Clan Cars in 1988, and got a factory tour... I mean a dander round the shed!
