I know but I maintain that this car is technically not mine as is a motability lease car for my bro. So technically the triumph is still my daily as I cant use the Scenic unless on Davids purposes.

Now if you can find me a running and MOTd T2000 for less than £500 i'll happily send it back ;D

Well, I'm not going to be hard on you.

My Quantum saloon was my daily for over 5 years, and my wife's Quantum 2+2 was her daily for a few years.

But the time came when I needed to be sure the car I got into at 7am in mid-winter was going to take me 30 miles to work, no questions asked. Hence a modern daily.

I really admire anyone who does full-time retros. Maybe I'm getting too old. Time was I ONLY had kitcars.
Modern doesn't necessarily mean bad. The trick is to find something that even though modern, still floats your boat.

always been a retro driver.. but recently I got a 98 pug 106d .. ok by modern standards its hardly modern, yay its economical. but its also a piece of pooopy.. so far, new diesel pump, nea rear axle, countless bulbs, new brake pipes, now has dead heater motor (dash out apparently) and the power steering works once in a blue moon (interesting when halfway into a corner hanging onto the wheel for all your worth) did I mention the sticking throttle???

but as retros go, the sceptre I sold to Jaminben on here was used day in, day out.. never missed a beat and quite regularly did massive weekend jaunts to the south to see family and friends... really regret selling that one .....

I've had loads of moderns, they have their place. The best car I've owned was a modern - e39 530d Sport. Absolutely fantastic. I've had curse word ones as company cars, could never feel any love for my Pathfinder, Santa Fe or Saab 9-3. I'd jump at a new 3 or 5 series as long as I wasn't paying!

However, what I don't get is people chopping in their perfectly good older cars for brand new ones (generally on finance) to save £100/year on tax and get 10 more mpg for their 10000 mile/year travel...

My dads st24 went into the scrappage scheme and came out as a tax free suzuki alto which does 70mpg.
He tried to sell the st several times but no luck. Think he took the best option really.

I'm currently feeling as modern as I ever have in a 97 audi a4 avant.

This may sound a little wrong here, but I admit to being a bit of a fair weather RR'er. My Nova is terrible in the wet and the ice and will rust in just a few days of salt. So it is tucked away for the winter, all safe and warm. Instead I use my 02 Focus Ghia which has all the trimmings, heated seats, traction control etc.

This way, I am avoiding the risk of hurting or killing my retro in the winter, whilst being able to do little jobs on it over the winter. All the while I am looking forward to next March/April when I drive it out of the garage and start using it for work again.

It's like meeting up with an old friend that you haven't seen for a while.

Besides, if I drove it every day of the year I would end up hating it, so this way I enjoy it all the more when I do use it.
(That last bit sounds wrong, but makes sense to me.)
