Well if he gives up then they've won haven't they (not meant as a criticism Conor)
It hacks me off that these small time scrotes get away with it because in the end it becomes too much hassle for the police and the victims just got disheartened with the whole thing, bung their claim in and the whole thing starts all over again.

Just to let you know, my better half works for the police in the technical dept, and she has said that they can extract deleted history etc. If the police can do it, someone else can too In technical speak, when you delete the history it only deletes the top folders, the rest remains. As an example for this i was playing about with a mobile is had bought off the bay, had a quick look for forensic software and a free download later I could view all the files, numbers, messages and pics the last owner thought they got rid of with a factory reset. I have no doubt the police have more than free software to play with if they want to.

Would the police issue a warrant to search a property for other items/recover cash as profit from the sale of the camera?
My mate has given up. It frustrates him but he wants to put it behind him. It was my doorstep. I'm not letting this drop!! I can't sleep. Petty crime but my god it's got to me!!

This is a long shot. Does your mate still have the original box and paperwork for it? Sometimes the serial number of electronic stuff is marked on the box, as well as the device.

The box and paperwork is gone. Still no reply from tomtom regarding the unit's identification. The police rang and sais they are looking into it. But that's it. Still thouroghly wound up. Also paranoid that if they think that's whats in the car, what could be in the other ones/the house!!

Also paranoid that if they think that's whats in the car, what could be in the other ones/the house!! My Manager just legged it from the office having realised that his car, which was broken into overnight, contained a remote garage door opener and he's not sure if it's still there. Apparently they've got a door from the garage to the house that doesn't get locked. This is a great thread. One guy wants to get to the bottom of something, rallies the troops here (who are well known for knowing a lot of stuff about lots of stuff), starts making some good progress and the rest of us find out about sites that might help you locate a stolen camera and digital forensics for sat navs. Awesome work. Proud to be a member.
