Remember Blowing off the flat cap stereotype?
Those were the two driving test / auto-test events in the calendar.
There are also two trials each year. Missed the one in Spring but was ready (ish) for the Autumn one in very late October.
I have only just got the pics off my dad. Didn't take any myself for reasons to follow.
Less talk, more pictures.
It was held at a backup venue because the intended spot had flooded. This place was really slippy as well. Almost everyone got dug in very easily.
This was a familiar sight through most of the morning. The fuelling went mad, the timing got lost, and it cut out every time it pointed uphill. Great stuff at a hillclimbing event!
Over lunch about 20 guys got stuck in (all at once) and reset the timing, played around with the dizzy and went over the fuel system and we eventually got it running evenly, albeit too rich and too fast. Then the little 7 and I were able to show what we were capable of.
This guy (Willie) did not get dug in, and cleared most of the tests, and went on to be the runaway victor.
These pair were in the same class as me and doing well. Ian won the class, Danielle finished third. Fun fact - they bought the car a couple of years ago from the guy (Alan) that also owned mine previously. So half the parts on the green car originally came off mine - all the good parts probably lol.
For the first time this year I/we finished an event without a DNF or DNS. For the first time I/we placed at an event.
It was suggested that we strip down and rebuild the car over winter. Our reply was; it works now, we'll just leave it well alone!
Such a mission keeping it going, I'm not even going to get into the clutch problems we had, everything has to be made to fit - the clutch lever fitted a week before this event required me to wrap my leg around the top of the steering column and action the clutch with my heel. Some 'amendment' with a grinder required there.
Anyway
