A chap who used to work for my Dad rode this to work daily from Kirkby in Ashfield to Mansfield. One day it wouldn't start at the end of the day, so he chucked it in the skip at the factory My Dad pulled it out and had some one run it down to our house in the van. This is Feb 2002 and I was 12 I remember getting off the school bus and walking to down the drive to find a moped kicking about. I went wild. My Dad put a new spark plug in and cleaned out the carb and it rode like a trooper around the garden for years. These things are built to be used in Thailand and Cambodia where they use anything solvent or flammable for petrol so it rarely broke down, until the throttle cable snapped and I didn't fix it. I can't really remember where it went, it got shifted around the garden and ended up in a bush by the green house until now. I love reading about bikes/cars that the owners have had for decades or 'since they were a youth'. The simplicity of the bike means it can't be hard to resurrect When I got it was complete, I still have the rear indicators but i'm not sure where the mud guards and other fenders went. I seem to remember taking them off to get 'extra speed' ;D Yes I did spray paint the exhaust cover blue. I should revive it and make it like this beast: <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/K1S-Q3ObFQU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Yeah, I have been doing a bit of research the past couple of days. Folks who have tuned these QT50's up say that the PW50 pinion and clutch gives better speed. Thanks Grizz.

Thats amazing! I wonder if I could still get the basket from the dealer? Any chance you have a part number for it?

Thats amazing! I wonder if I could still get the basket from the dealer? Any chance you have a part number for it? I don't i'm afraid. It was only 3 years ago that i ordered it - i walked into www.damerells.co.uk/ told them i was after a basket, after they'd stopped laughing they broke out their microfiche & that was that! Loads of bits still available & all at reasonable prices.

That will be sweet when you have done it, thanks for sharing those pics. I love that others understand the nostalgic appeal of these mopeds.

Thanks! Not made a call about it yet. I got an impact drive today from my uncle to get the philips screws off. They seemed to be way too tight to undo with a screwdriver and not round them. The impact drive sorted that. I was thinking of replacing the screws with allen bolts. Where did you get the stainless steel fixings from Neil?

Not sure about the PW50 being faster, I can vaguely remember PW owners coming in for QT50 electrics as they would make them rev out better (allegedly - this may have been pub gossip so don't take it as gospel)

I've got a MS50, which is also part of the same family. I have a A4 printed copy of the QT50 Workshop Manual, if it's any help to you. I also have a PW50 rear gear waiting to go it. It raises the gearing for higher top speed. Best way is to find a PW50 owner and trade gears, as they love lowering the PW50 gearing to make it more rideable for kids around slower courses. Google PW50 QT50 rear gear and you'll find a host of people discussing the swap.
