If I can make a few points - no offence intended There is a lot of good work done in the linked thread but what you've done here is drop everyone into the middle of a project that's been running for over a year with no background Would have been better to do a small precis of what happened and when with highlights like the chassis work or suspension arms. Do scimitars really have a Stainless steel chassis

BC, Thats a very good point! I guess I didn't fancy joining up and going through it all, kind of wanted people to ask first. I'll put together an intro later today. The chassis was mild, but mine is now half SS, every that didn't stand the last 34 years too well should now stnad the next 34 years with no problem

Happy to be told why you can't do this by a more knowledgable welder

Was interested to see how you were approaching the improvement aspects of a Vaux/Opel V6 You've not gone as far as you can yet ;D

very cool project. a cautionary tail about the crank pulley though. the bit you have machined is the harmonic balancer, its not directly fixed to the centre portion mounted to the crank. theres a rubber/plastic ring between the two halves.
the worst that can happen is your crank timing will slip

Thats a good point Darren, something I'd not thought about, I know there will bee a very small amount of vibration between the outer and the inner, but I hadn't considered that it might actually slip.
It was designed to transmit drive to the ancillaries so it should be pretty sturdy, and its been done before like this a number of time. But I will certainly keep and eye on it, in fact, I'll put a couple of punch marks on it either side of the rubber so I can keep an eye on it more precisely.

What a great project, you came up with some great ideas to overcome some of the issues when fitting a bigger motor in a small space, brill!!

fantastic work on the headers. i was wondering what consumables you used on the joins ? was it MIG with stainless wire and argon ?
i've heard a few vectras and omegas in my time, you can tell its nicely balanced from the engine tone

Thanks guys! It was all MIG'd, I used 316 welding wire, with pure argon, it was a real treat to weld, so so much easier than mild in terms on not having to clean anything up. It did take a little setting up, and getting the setting right on the welder, but after that was great.
More to come

I deleted this intro post to try and reduce the photobucket acount usage (to stop it freezing the acount again) Hence the last attempt to get things right is making the front pulley into a 36-1 trigger wheel with much bigger chunkier teeth and hope that that cures the problem. I got the pulley back after being balanced yesterday and had the oil cooler hoses crimped up at the hydraulics place. So this weekend I’ll make up the new CPS sensor mount for the front of the engine, and see if it cures the running problem. I might not get it finished this weekend as I’ve not got too long, but I’ll post what progress I do make. Thanks for reading
