Oh wow, so it's a factory T-bar with centre console? That's kind of unusual in a ute. Most of them were column-shift auto. I guess it must have been a Kingswood or something. Back then you could order all kinds of wacky options though. I've seen a HQ sedan on South Australian eBay which was factory built in a really weird spec. Orchid purple colour, base model Belmont with a 253ci V8 and three-on-the-tree manual. I don't think I've ever seen another V8 three speed manual HQ.
Definitely a good call on not doing burnouts in it. A mate of mine had a 253 ute with a Trimatic. He leant it to another mate with all gears working. Said mate proceeded to do burnouts and returned the car. After that it wouldn't move at all in Drive, but you could get 1st and 2nd by selecting them manually. Not fun driving at 60km/h at about 4000rpm!

unlikely to be factory, its also got a gts dash in it as well, so that with the statesman front end, somone has had a good play with it at one time

lovely shape these. Holden utes, in fact holdens in general always look better than the fords- slimmer and neater.

worthy project..its cool to see one up nth..in NZ i had a 72 Kingswood ute with 202-celica 5spd..put early Commodore bucket seats in it..scored a period alu canopy cheap..mechanically when it finished with me it was A1..but the bright red paint hid the rotten horrors..i sold it sight unseen chq in the mail to a Auckland Buick club...id have one again..but have to be 5spd..

Pity you can't lay your hands on a later injected 5 litre out of a commodore and slot the whole shebang in. How expensive are crashed/rusted out Corvettes over there? An injected 5.7 and 4spd auto might be more fun/cheaper to run than an lpg 350 with a 350 auto.

yeah, been a bit busy till now, had to have 100sq meters of paving done, had to fit a new kitchen and utility room and do all the decorating, its mostly all done except for a bit more paving to do, told the missus no more house stuff now, so there should be more updates now.
I want to paint the panels in epoxy primer, and still haven't worked out the best place to spray them yet

Seriously what about creating a temporary spray both with some plastic sheeting to keep the dust/fumes out/in

I will have to do that, just have to pick my day though, I just like to think I don't have enough room....lol anyway straightened out the front panel best i could, it will take a lot less filler then I ground out anyways before and after and the wing that someone has worked on before

Hi there hardtop, I'm new to this forum. I'm a panelbeater in NZ . I like those utes and have done up a couple and wrecked a few too. I have a few bits n pieces if you need anything just fire me an email. I couldn't quite tell from your photos but it looks like you may have an HZ chassis under your ute rather than a HQ-HX one. easy way to tell is by the position of the top of the front shockies. An HZ has them in the middle of the top arms...all the earlier ones the shockie is offset towards the rear
Great project...I'm sure there aren't many over there!

been out in the garage last couple of weekends chipping of paint and filler, copious amounts of filler in the scuttle panel big dent in the roof as well, they do make corner scuttle panels, but they don't make them big enough, so i'll have to make some myself I think
