just a little fun thread you get the heads up that the world might be ending in the next 2 weeks thers a 50% chance you wont get food water or any help to survive!! BUT its only 50% that this might happen... so what car will you buy with a gand? has to help you survive if fit hits the shan but if it don't happen then you have to able to use it for fun!!!
ive been thinking abut this and I'm not shure yet as i like road cars not offroaders so I'm still trying to come up with something...
so what you think? what car? allso put up a pic lol

An old tractor is probably your best bet, anything mad max stylee will be worse than useless 90% of the time. Going fast is going to be pretty fatal when there's no one to clear the roads.
Old tractor will run on almost anything, cope with detours across the fields, be able to push stuff out the way and IF it ever breaks should be fixable by almost anyone.

Mitsubishi delica. 4wd capabilities if needed, pretty reliable, easy to fuel and can live in it if need be

I dunno how realistic this is supposed to be, but Stollys need huge amounts of maintenance and huge amounts of fuel.
Army stuff often looks great for Armageddon scenarios, but most of it would be dead in the water in a couple of days without an army supply line to keep it going.
Most road going 4x4s would be fine for a while but again they use more fuel than something like a tractor does and you really don't need the ability to go at more than 30mph or so, that would be way to risky in a situation where "bad guys" could lay traps in the roads.
Its pretty boring, but you'd probably be safer on foot than in a vehicle.
If we're not being realistic, i'll have something like this please.

Ideally you need something that does massive mpg, is repairable by everyone, can move around the cars that are abandoned in the road, and is easy to hide from other survivors when parked up. So my choice would be.....
a Honda C90 cub. Only thing bad about it would be the fact your open to attack.
When the fuel finally runs out though, it would have to be a mountain bike.

Having used the apocalypse simulator "DayZ", all I've learned is you have to make do with what you have. The reality is whatever you have will probably get stolen or broken fairly quickly. So for the first 6 months until the petrol goes stale, I'd probably run around in whatever I have at the time. Probably a bulky Volvo. After this, anything diesel and durable so perhaps a Delica or other 4x4. Forget V8s - mad max should have been converting cars to Iveco diesels

for me it would have to be this...... but based on a toyota Hi-lux. added armageddon purely for the fun and we all know how tough the Hi-lux is yet repairable by simple mechanical knowledge. Can just imagine taking it up the side of a volcano.

I would stash a diesel 4x4 somewhere for the first year until petrol runs out and start producing biodiesel. until then whatever I can get my hands on that works

Depends on scenario. No point having something newish if its a nuclear strike as the EMP will stop it working anyway. Needs to be some sort of old clunky diesel truck.

i suspect if its a nuclear strike, you wont be in a fit state to care about what your driving

Steam powered is the way to go . Tractor unit . Just water and something to burn .. pull a good size trailer full of all the fuel and water you need .

I think i'de take an alternative approach, if you can scavenge and survive for the 1st month (should be pretty simple in a city) there's going to be a hell of a lot of dead people just caused by medications running out so you should be able to pick up pretty much anything you want. Personally as only the outlaws have guns here at the moment i'de probably buy a decent crossbow and plenty of bolts (and spend a month having a holiday and practicing shooting things that aren't trying to kill me back). However once my meds run out i'de be off trying to find an intact grow room to work out how much to smoke to dull the pain but not make me stupid... EMP would probably wipeout most vehicles from the mid 80's onwards unless they are parked deep underground, so something like a Landrover 101 (with a diesel preferably) would probably suit me, or one of the TK bedfords with 4wd. A tractor is a good suggestion but they really are slow, ask anybody who has had to drive one for any length of time on the road.

Bedford RLHZ "Green Goddess". They were built for it! Fuel economy might be shocking but a.) they are big enough to live in b.) fairly capable off road c.) very simple and tough mechanically and happy to run on low quality fuel and d.) have a really really big on board fuel tank. Admittedly it's designed as a water tank but, you know.
