Hi,
I'm just restoring my 404, ive put hydraulic power steering on it, how does yours go with the remote brake booster, what is the booster off? part number? does it stop good?
I want to do this to mine and need to buy the correct booster to make it work.
Thanks, Mick Christie
I legally drove it out of the barn, down the road, visited a chap I know a few miles away, and no one got hurt!!
It not finished but I wanted to pop my Unimog cherry, after having driven round the yard, and a few laps of the 6 acre field, I thought it was time to get it out there.
I have to say that I have owned a lot of cars, fast ones, slow ones, big ones, etc, but this is just amazing!! Love it. Its like driving a giant Tonka toy on the open road.
I have to say that the brakes are pretty awful, and I am going to fit the vacuum booster some time soon, literally standing on the brake pedal to stop is not ideal.
Unfortunately it did decide to pop the temporarily repaired radiator on the way back, but I will get that sorted.
on a build front the things I have done recently
Installed new handbrake cables
Adjust the brakes
Install new speedo cable
Re-wire the lights, indicators, brakes and switches.
Mount the batteries to the back of the cab (high up).
Refurbish the original wiper motors, I thought they would have had it, but had a go at cleaning them up, de rusting and fitting new springs and bits, and hey presto they work fine.
started to beef up the rear load bed, in preparation for the new scaffold boards I will go and collect with it.
I will try and get a video of it at some point, once enough people are around to record the event, in the mean time...
you need pictures......
