Hi All,
I am re-moddling the rear of the car. Its a 1984.
Do I need rear fog lights for the MOT ?

if your car was made before 1980 then you wont need one but sorry after this date then you will need one you can blag it if your cars a 1984 buy saying that it was never fitted with one as its a 1980s car

Is it on your Manta? Why not convert the driver's side reverse light with a red led cluster bulb instead?

I'd agree with that. You'd sometimes see the last of the Mk2 Escorts (1980) and other cars of the era fitted with bolt-on aftermarket fogs. |

Is it on your Manta? Why not convert the driver's side reverse light with a red led cluster bulb instead? Joe Quite a common mod on Minis that to lose the ugly stuck on one. Technically I'm not 100% sure it's legal because the fog has to be a certain distance from either the tail light or brake light (can't remember which) but mine got through an MoT like that. |

yeah stop/tail lights have to be 100mm away from the fog lights. you might get through an MOT with them because they show the correct colour, but fog lights and reversing lights have different "E" numbers on them, as they have different beam patterns so technically they are lllegal. I was thinking of using stop tail lights on my herald, even though "E" markings wern't standard in 1970, and the rear fog light regs were intoroduced in 1980. I was originally going to use "beehive" lamps (think they are lucas L595 assemblies)  I ended up buying some LED "E" marked rear lights (stop/tail, indicators, fog and reversing lamps) www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BRITAX-LED-75mm-Fog-Lamp-light-Kit-Car-Westfield-Locost-Defender-/230752494932?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item35b9eba554and how I intend to fit them to the herald  |
