Old trim holes that need sorting on the sills going to get rust sorting then think about swapping the 1800 slant 4 for something a bit more potent saab b204.... Or maybe v8 ;D

As leigh already mentioned you've got a great base to start from. Now, with a new engine and lowered stance the Magnum will make a great looking ride. Thanks for sharing your new project.

Those repairs look excellent, my first attempt at welding resembled Seagull poo dropped from 30,000 feet, after ten years it now resembles Eagle poo dropped from 10 feet That wing rail looks like it needs chopped off and a new section welded in, take plenty of measurements and mark out a reference line under the cut, i'd also fabricate the new rail before chopping the old one out. Why not go with XE for power ?, or even 2.0 8V surely been done before ?

Looks a good base to start from but the rust certainly isn't the worst I've ever seen. I've just bought myself a nice 2.3 viva saloon. Thankfully all welded up already and on the road but needing some tidying up.

I love those cars, shame Opel didn't make a rebadged version for us landlubbers in Europe.
Don't know how much you had to grind to get that weld looking like that, but as a finished repair it looks great for a first try.
Why'd you weld up the trim holes? Going for no trim or are you going to attach the trim using glue later?

I'm a huge Saab fan and love the idea of putting one into something rear wheel drive. There was a project Mk2 Escort in Car and Car Conversions mag over a couple of years ago, they didn't want to go Cosworth and were looking for other ways of getting big horses. They used a later Saab lump (Vauxhall bellhousing pattern) and Omega 5 speed gearbox. From what I remember, the gearbox is quite a monster (size wise) , especially compared to the original 4 speed escort box. I followed it for a few months, but didn't get the last few mags when they were onto ignition systems etc. I do like Viva's and if I didn't have an Avenger already, I'd probably get a Viva instead. I'll be watching to see how you're getting on, especially if you do go the Saab route.

defo going that route got a gearbox on the way, winning on a 900 on ebay so fingers crossed, got a plug and play loom on the way,so mounts and sump to sort, then drop in and see what needs cutting. didn't want to cut the tunnel up too much as the floor is mint, but can't think of another way, or gearbox that may fit the work on it may be a bit slow as it's my first swap like this so bare with me, but it WILL get done
