Hi I've just bought this ford cassette deck off the Internet. Everything seems fine other than it won't keep the cassette in. If you hold the arm at the back it will, if you don't it just won't stay in. Any ideas? It must be simple... I'm guessing something isn't locking in place? Chris

Is the tape tight? It sounds like it thinks its come to the end of the side and is ejecting so you can turn over?

The tape is somewhere in the middle , if you hold it it seems like its in the right position, just doesn't lock in.

Maybe the motor is worn and weak, and hasnt the welly to pull the tape along throwing in the eject action??

Haven't tried it plugged in yet. Just stuck the cassette in to make sure all the mechanical functions worked before I went to the car... I thought it should probably stay in anyway with out electricity

Looks like there is a solenoid right where your finger is. It probably electrically latches the tape in when it is inserted. Once latched the tape will stay inside the machine until it is manually ejected. I suspect it won't work until you power it up.

Most cassette players automatically ejected tapes when the power was turned off, to save damage to the tape surface from leaving it in contact with the playback head.

Ahh I just though it should just stay in there. I've got a couple of other players that keep the tape in. I'll wire it in tomorrow and see how it goes.

It's all ok now! It was just me and like mentioned before it needs power to keep the tape in... I can now listen to all my 80s cassette how they were intended. Although it doesn't like my cassette adapter.
