Looking good! A friend of mine is running a lifted Disco on 37's, they rub and tear on everything, it's either body lift or go down to 35's next, or both! The trimming required to fit the tyres under the arches looks quite aggressive on his. The orange rims look good, almost every Disco that gets modded now goes on black modulars, I went old school and fitted a set of white 8-spokes to mine Thinking about 37's for mine (after a further 2" lift), do you know if he runs uprated axles and transfer box ?, i've read all different things about running sizes over a 33, from it'll be fine if driven gently to you are guaranteed to burst something even pulling away from traffic lights. Know what you mean about the trimming, seen one the other day (Youtube clip i think ?) the arches had been trimmed up to the rear door handles , i tried to take as little as possible out the rear doors. It was bought with just 4" steel blocks welded between the spring seats and the axles, 37's and arches cut enough to drive in a straight line and gentle corners. All we've done to it so far is find a set of better offset rims to clear on lock, and turned the diaphragm on the pump so it pulls away better in 1st and 5th is a useable gear! A 2" body lift is next to help the tyres clear the arches, and possibly go down to 35" tyres.

37's? Holy sheet!
How about some Unimog portal axles under it? That'd get you plenty of clearance.

Progressing nicely!
Got to agree with Sowen; don't be drawn in by the lure of big tyres...
I went from 33s to 35s on the Defender I had a few years back and I would say that was at its limit for a practical daily vehicle. It looked great, but it made the truck work a lot harder. I had a wound up pump, locked wastegate and straight through exhausr on my 300tdi, running Disco axles - it went well, but it did get a bit warm on long hills.
The other issue with Disco's is their height. I only had a 2" lift on my 90 (usual dislocation stuff, extended droop set-up) to try and keep it stable off road, but had to do some pretty brutal arch mods to make it useable. Jacking up to get the clearance looks great for popping down the shops, but will ruin your truck in every other way - and your misses will get fed up of clambering in and out of it too! It will feel so top heavy offroad, you'll have standard trucks running rings round you!
Another problem is the strain on the axles, if you play offroad in it. I found if I lifted and spun a wheel as I came out of a hole I would easily snap the toothpick-like halfshafts. I upgraded to ashcroft shafts, which resulted in me breaking diffs quite often. This was on 35 14.5 x 15 tyres - they were on beadlocks, so they did weigh a ton, but you get the idea.

Joe Cheers for the advice Joe , was thinking about it today and realised 37's would be a bit much, as MDH said it would look cool but i recon the truck would become a PITA to use on the road every day or even regularly, so i'll go with your advice, the truck drives really nice the way it is, i'd hate to go too far with the monter truck look and ruin it. Got the wheels done and the arches fitted yesterday and i'm pretty pleased with the way it looks , took it to work today and everyone who seen it loved it, seems to be sitting slightly nose down, probably was before but it seems to be exagerated since i've fitted the arches (if that makes sense) so i'll go for a pair of 1" spring spacers on the front hopefully level it out a bit. I'd like to get a pair of fancy tubular (Terafirma maybe ?) front shock towers as these are fully visible now and the standard ones look.........well.............standard In the spring i'll strip the suspension (radius arms, springs, shockers etc) and either paint it all or get it powdercoated (again because it's all mostly on show) Aside from that (and maybe MDH's front winch bumper ) think it's pretty much done for now. Will post up some decent pics of it at the weekend

Jumping on the big tyre bandwagon will only get really expensive and almost certainly result in a perpetually broken driveway ornament. Chances are once you go upto 35's you'll end up with constant wheel balance issues making any long distance/high speed driving difficult and hard work. I couldn't help but laugh at the massive wheel wobble my friends Disco had from 65mph, plainly viewable from behind as I followed him back from buying it! A heavy duty steering damper and box load of wheel weights has made it a lot safer to drive.

Being external beadlockers, they had loads of weight at the outside of an already massively offset rim. They needed constant topping up, as they would weep a little bit and the only way to tame them was to ballast them with balance beads - hundreds of small stainless ballbearings, basically. But as MDH points out - they do look great!

MMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmm.......333333888888888888'sssssssss And you are so suggesting i do just that, you devil Seen that one before, just glanced through the article though as i don't think it's that accurate, there's no way you can lift a Disco body 5" and retain the standard steering shaft

You know you want to!! ;-)
Discos look big on 33s, I cant imagine how huge it'd be on 38's. In the pics the body looks small in comparison, a bit like a 90!!
You'd need some really low ratio gears too, and probably steps to get in!

Well, i'll see how it goes next year, spent enough on it this year, now need to squander money on pointless stuff like the house and shopping Got some new dull, damp, crappy pics, you can see what i mean about it sitting slightly nose down, going to order some 1" spring spacers for the front, also need to stick the side trims back on (bought some Tiger seal yesterday), few other bits to tidy up, wheels need another coat of paint then clear laquer, (did'nt finish them so the tyre fitters could bash them about ) also i think i'll fill in the letters on the tyres white so they are solid. Pretty pleased with how it looks though, seems to draw a lot more attention with the orange wheels, also the road buzz from the tyres has increased since fitting the 10's which is cool
