looks great on the wires and green paint i was wondering how you would get through the emissions side of things ? does it have to comply with 2014 regs since its a "new" car ?

Hi Darren it should be tested against the emissions of the mid 80's - that is the date of the donor vehicle which supplied engine, gearbox, front suspension rear suspension etc. Finally - after a very long and frustrating saga of old starter motor, stuck brushes, broken brush springs, swapped distributer, coil and ignition amplifiers the Ronart burst into 6 cylinder life today...I did say to the owner that I wanted to get it going before I went on holiday....we leave later this afternoon!

Back in the hanger after the hols and some progress on little jobs. Two catches have been purchased to latch the bonnet down. They have been installed and a cable release operates both of them together - next I have to fibre-glass the locking pins onto the bonnet. The boot now has a locking catch and the "Le Mans" style fuel filler has been connected to the fuel tank and rear body tail section. - and the engine still fires up!

Looking mighty nice!!
I do feel the designers could have found a better way to mount the lights... They detract from an otherwise very nice shape... But that's just my opinion.

I know what you mean, on other Ronarts they have the number plate on the offside wing above the lights but I tried to get a more symetrical layout.

With these kind of shapes it is never easy! You're doing a great job building this!

Thanks eurogranada. I mentioned about the bonnet locks so here is a picture of one side. There is another lock on the other side and the bowden cable runs to that as well so both operate from one pull of the handle inside the car. Here is the back of the dashboard with the wiring loom slowly being fitted and connected.....

Small problem as I cannot find my notes on the electronic Speedo wiring. There are three wires to the back (Earth, 12V and sensor) but I don't know which to connect to where and there are no indications on the speedo - the wiring diagram/handbook doesn't help either. Any advice gratefully received.

I had a bright idea to check on another XJ6 to see the wiring behind the speedometer.......found a suitable example with a fuel injected XK engine....got the speedo out, with a big struggle......then found that it was a mechanical speedo! But I now realise that I may need that speedo as the manual gearbox that I have may not have a suitable electronic sensor anyway....more problems.....

Looking mighty nice!! I do feel the designers could have found a better way to mount the lights... They detract from an otherwise very nice shape... But that's just my opinion. Wasn't going to say anything because of the all around awesomeness of this car, but because of the awesomeness..... My MG midget came with the nasty square reverse lights that all MG's have. I had them filled in and instead bought a motorcycle front signal light to use as the reverse light. It hangs under the bumper and looks 100 times better. Have you thought of something like that for your reverse/fog lights? The scale will be better, the shape right and oh so much more original looking. Just my 2cents, and as I said, I almost hate to say anything I love this car so much. I am away from my computer so don't have a picture. Cheers!

Thanks for the idea JP - but I think there is a minimum spec/size for high intensity and/or reversing lamps?? But I would appreciate any further ideas for the rearlamp/numberplate treatment as I am sure there is a better solution.

Thanks JP but I am not sure about those - I will carry on looking at alternative ideas. However Yes the manual gearbox has a mechanical cable drive output - and I found a suitable speedo drive cable from my old Morris 1000 spares! But then saw that the gearbox output was too close to the chassis rail to get the cable on....a call to Ronart gave the answer. There should be a right angle gearbox on the output - so one was ordered and I put it on - but now the speedo cable doesn't have the correct end fitting for the new drive gearbox.....So a new cable will be ordered..... As a break from mechanical frustration I have been trying my hand at carpet interior trimming.

Looks fantastic, great work on the interior it looks spot on - and that exhaust is brilliant, I bet it's deafeningly loud when you driving!

Thanks Fuldatramp I have been tidying up the wiring and so put this relay and main fuse on the back of the bulkhead but struggled to think what to do with the fusebox..... Then I checked in my stock of "possibly useful bits!" lo and behold a bit of trim with a hinged fuse box cover - a bit of tweaking and it is almost there.... I also finished trimming the drivers side - still a couple of finishing touches though.

This looks superb. I have an aristocat xk120/150 replica which ive just bought and needs a bit of tlc. It was also based on an xj6 but uses the 4.2 xk engine. What did you use to clean up and paint the suspension parts as they've come up really well! Also ive been searching around for somewhere to get new bushes and bits and found a couple of companies. Is there anywhere youd specifically recommended?
