This looks superb. I have an aristocat xk120/150 replica which ive just bought and needs a bit of tlc. It was also based on an xj6 but uses the 4.2 xk engine. What did you use to clean up and paint the suspension parts as they've come up really well! Also ive been searching around for somewhere to get new bushes and bits and found a couple of companies. Is there anywhere youd specifically recommended? Hi Alan The front suspension was just cleaned and spray painted or chrome plated, the rear suspension cleaned and spray painted - the hubs cleaned then hand smoothed with progressively finer wet n dry then polished with Autosol ___LOTS of elbow grease!!! I have got most Jaguar parts from SNG Barratt Very pleased with them on the website and phone.

Recently the Ronart has been out and about! Well on a flat bed to the local coachtrimmer to have a Tonneau cover made and fitted - it is a great job by Tony Baldessarre in Bedford (Pics to follow). However since it came back I have been doing the finishing jobs. Put 10 litres of water in and no leaks - I then ran it for a few minutes and it even idles now.... Then I thought that I would bleed the brakes - three corners went well but the picture below shows the fourth - sheered bleed nipple!!! and yes - it is from the rear brake caliper which is next to the diff and inaccessible. I might have to strip the entire back end to get to the broken part------AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHHH!

It is still fighting me though, I spent two hours getting the back end off (seats out, seat belts undone, front rear wing supports off, number plate electrics disconnected, tail removed, fuel tank drained, disconnected and removed). Then the lower plate had to come off the diff, handbrake cable off, hand brake calipers off - but only when the calliper was unbolted and moved round, calliper fixing bolts removed then finally I could extricate the calliper. Drilled the threaded part of the nipple out with progressively larger drills and still the conical seal wouldn't break and finally the drill bit took out the seat and so I've had to order a new calliper....... Of course the Really annoying thing is that I should have loosened the nipple when I was cleaning up the calipers early in the build - I did think to do it then...but I forgot.

Damn, always the way. Still you live and learn. The next jaguar you build you won't forget to loosen the bleed nipples

Too right Xenocide! The Ronart continues to frustrate me at every turn! Now the engine has run for a few times a strange "tinkling" sound needed to be investigated. It was the starter which was being driven at times by the flywheel so the inertia pinion was not always fully disengaging......So out came the starter - again! and sure enough the wear pattern showed that it was catching on the face of the flywheel due to the pinion going in too far. So I investigated alternative modern geared starters and ordered a suitable unit with a 10 tooth pinion from SNG Barratt. It arrived the next day but was a large dia 37mm pinion whereas the original starter was small 29mm pinion..... I contacted Barratt and they would exchange with no problem - but they did not have a unit with 10 teeth and small 29mm dia pinion....... So I contacted Powerlite - who made the starter, to see if they could help. I then went to the factory in Brierly Hill and they went through the various alternatives. The closest was an E type unit with a 29mm pinion - but only 9 teeth, however the tooth width was very close to the 10 tooth profile and the spacing also very close, so, worth a try. Also I could swap the units at SNG Barratt in Bridgenorth. So off I went and did the swap. (As a bonus I also saw a Battle of Britain Bulleid pacific in steam at the station!). Anyway the next day I put the new starter on ---- and the teeth touched but didn't mesh! After trying with and without a spacer, measuring and re-measuring, swinging the motor on one bolt, it finally engaged. I then slightly offset filed the tapped holes to a clearance size and bolted the starter in place - success! I think it was a combination of tolerances, imperial and metric sizes that just combined to create the difficulty. I have also been making another gear selector bracket to get the gear knob clear of the dashboard - that also is tricky and very much trial and error. It did show that the reverse detent plunger would move sometimes and jam sometimes.....Taking that apart in situ was a nightmare - but there was a ball bearing missing that fits in the detent plunger groove so the spring went into the groove and caused the jamming - again SNG Barratt came to the rescue with a correct size bearing.

The third gear selector has put the gear lever in the correct position - finally!

I have been doing some more "finishing" jobs. The three mesh grilles for the carb intakes needed securing in place - so out with the P40 and P38. And this is the Tonneau cover in place.

Awesome!!! The car looks fantastical!!!!
Any chance of video of the car driving or is the weather too bad for test drives?
Well done though! Mighty machine you've produced there.

There are still a few bits to do with the electrics then I will be "IVA"ing it - which seems to involve all sorts of adjustments to remove small radiuses!
