I've been looking at these so hard I was wishing my next job would force me to buy one. Somehow the UK seems way ahead of France in terms of finding the next cool car on the cheap, and I don't think this is an exception to the rule! I see a red one of these, always parked on the same spot, the car is really tidy in its bright red paintjob, although it sometimes feel like I'm the only human in the Universe who likes them. You can even find Trofeos for sale...

I had a Cinq for a few months waaaaaay back and it was ace...!!! I can't remember what model it was (it was pretty lowly) but the smiles-per-mile ration was pretty darn high that's for sure!
I am sure I will own a Sporting one day as everytime I see one they really do make me stop and stare into the middle distance. With the prices they are now it'd be stupid NOT to purchase one!
This is definitely a future cult classic and will only get more desirable as more and more get cubed!!!

My main retro loves are little buzzbombs and big barges, and I'd very strongly considered a Cinq Sporting before I bought the Granada. Now wondering if that was the right decision...

Proper Italian hatches!

A mate of mine convinced his then GF that she really ought to rally her Sporting (in yellow as it happened!). They fully kitted it (cage, harnesses, seats, sump guard, etc, etc), for not much money. The only problem they found was the wheel size was quite rare, so struggled with either finding additional wheels or finding rally tyres to fit. Other than that they had a riot!

I've been offered a black cinquecento with a sporting transplant. Some mot. No tax. 350 nicker. Goes great for a wee car.

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

I would buy the crappest beige one I could find and some how shoe horn a 20v Turbo Fiat coupe in. I doubt 2k would cover it but I would have hours of fun up to my elbows in welding and wiring LOL.

I still see a lot of them in Spain. Not a fan of the styling, which has aged terribly in my opinion, but would love to have a spin in one. Found this one on ebay, think I would buy it for the numberplate if anything else....

Been here before, many moons ago... Huge fun, 900cc engine making an unbelievable noise when coupled to a K&N and centre exit exhaust. 14's were a bit too big in fairness, but with Spax springs and shocks it handled like it was on rails. It was not reliable though. Not even close. hydraulic tappets ended up exploding everywhere, multiple electrical gremlins... For a car that has so little in it, it really could break... doubt i would go back.

I sold mine in January this year, I had it 6 years and was the longest time I had ever kept a car, lowered -40mm uprated springs, janspeed dtm back box, focus induction, uprated front arb bushes. I loved it. It was an amazing car and it took us everywhere, happy to be on motorway all day too, it was amazingly easy to repair, I had the head gasket go a couple of times but then I was doing near on 12,000 a year in it, it literally sipped fuel and was amazingly cheap to insure I used to see loads of them about, but after I sold mine I think I have hardly ever seen one, I would have gone for a Seicento if I needed a similar small car, a Sporting one though. Great car, much missed, always grinning when driving it!! edit to say, mine was a 1.1 sporting, as standard they come with immobiliser, elec windows, central locking

I'd do this..... If that doesn't make you want one, nothing will. I've had a hankering for something like that for ages, I considered buying one from a work colleague a few years ago.

So to bring it back, I think the answer to HW's starter is yes, they are class so long as you ditch the stock lump!
Maybe that's where I went wrong...

Anyone know what their crash resistance is like? Just wondering as my son starts driving in a couple of months...
Bear in mind, as a 'responsible' father I wanted him inside something safe *and* retro (yes I *know* about all the passive safety in moderns)...so top of the list was a SWB Landrover or a 200/300 Volvo!! Go on, tell me I'm mad to be considering a Cinq instead?!
