Anyone know what their crash resistance is like? Just wondering as my son starts driving in a couple of months... Bear in mind, as a 'responsible' father I wanted him inside something safe *and* retro (yes I *know* about all the passive safety in moderns)...so top of the list was a SWB Landrover or a 200/300 Volvo!! Go on, tell me I'm mad to be considering a Cinq instead?! There not exactly safe tbh I really wouldn't want to crash one seeing how easily panels can rip and spot welds pop! I crashed my first one lightly into a ford galaxy that had a slight scratch my cinq whole wing completely caved in wing mirror smashed lots of damage for a low speed smack. They were put through the NCAp test and never scored seis the same some just scored because of an airbag fitted. Just got to respect it for what it is get him an 899 at first hell have wanted a sporting but once he starts properly driving one hell love it and the engines are very strong no Cambelt to worry about

Get a chinq with a rollcage fitted. A cage should give a teenager mad streetcred and makes it a whole lot saver.

Get a chinq with a rollcage fitted. A cage should give a teenager mad streetcred and makes it a whole lot saver. Sorry to the OP for the thread hijack... While a cage does seem to be a lot 'safer' the problem is, generally, they are designed not to deform/crush, so actually the energy of impact is transfered more or less directly to the occupants - I think it was that contributed/caused Beef Park's death in 2005. I did a fair bit of research when I was specifying the cage for my latest rally car and decided to use a slightly 'lesser' cage and rely on the OEM structure a little too. Sure the car would be wrecked, but at least we'd be ok. I accept the Cinq probably had very little in the way of effective crumple zones, and I remember just how 'tin can like' my mate's GF's one was! Volvo 340's are cheap to insure for new drivers but so are Cinq's, so if you want crash resistance go with the volvo Best I start looking for a 340! I wonder what a 2.0 240 would be like to insure for a 17yo?!1

As far as I know adding a cage to a car can increase the insurance price as the companies (generally) feel that the driver will be liable to take more risks if they have a cage fitted...
A Cinquecento for a first car is a definite yes but I'd be wary about the crash resistance!
With regards to a Cinq' as a future classic, find the good ones and get them mothballed...!!!!!!!

If your going to fit a cage then you really should properly fit some buckets and harnesses to avaoid head injuries from hitting the cage in an accident.

It's definitely short enough to fit in my garage! How much do you think a 1.4 conversion would cost all in if done by a garage?

It's definitely short enough to fit in my garage! How much do you think a 1.4 conversion would cost all in if done by a garage? Quite abit tbh it's not just the engine to change but pump, brakes, wheels, suspension, lots of small bits change/up rating. Mine I've done myself rebuilt the entire car replacing most bits and I'm probably at 3k!

That red one a few posts up is awesome!
Whats the driving position like in these? I had a mk1 Punto for a while and the engine was great, so keen yet so slow, haha! But the driving position was very tall and odd, I couldn't enjoy driving it properly.

^ I'm 5' 10" and found mine just fine. The pedals and steering wheel line up pretty well to! The Sporting seats are reasonable, a little more bolster would help. Chopped springs were horrible on it though, I soon put some proper ones back in. It was a great car and I do miss it but there's just too many other cars to own!

I've been offered a black cinquecento with a sporting transplant. Some mot. No tax. 350 nicker. Goes great for a wee car. So I got it. It's got a 1.2 punto 16v engine, coilovers and a stainless exhaust. Price? curse word all! Got a phone call asking if I wanted it to save them the hassle of weighing it in.
