Foxy, you are indeed a jammy git! I've had two Cinquecento Sportings in the past and regret selling/scrapping them both. First was this one: Lovely car. Ended up selling it. Can't remember why now. And this one: Was also a great car but was a little rotten and I had a big falling out with a mate over the car (long story involving lending it and money) so I stripped it and scrapped it. It's amazing how nippy and well they handle, even with my 20st dart player physique behind the wheel. Handles as well as my MX5 and mini. If I had money/space I'd defiantly be looking for another as a future classic.

These look great, small and spicy stuff like this often goes on to be a classic, I'd have one in yellow if there was space in the garage for it

Top grammar tips! Bought = purchased. Brought = relocated Lose = misplace/opposite of win. Loose = your mum

I had one identical to this back in the day.. Same car, the Seicento (600), just a facelifted version. This was in 2002 when the BMW MINI was fresh and i felt the Seicento was the car the new Mini should've been. It was great fun to drive for a 3yo car, a non-PAS model (the steering was actually lighter i believe!) it was lively and direct. Great little go-kart, if not fast, it still put a smile on my face. But i felt at the time that it really should've got the 1.2 6-speed, and it also felt fragile - it had an appetite for clutch cables but didn't break otherwise. I took it from 18k-26k and most of that was hammering it, so it did okay. Would i have another? Well i prefer the look of the previous shape, the Cinquecento, and for me it would have to have at least the 1.2 16v or even 1400cc but these don't need a lot of power, or to be fast, to be fun.

jonnys2 - I've been using my bog standard 899cc base model Cinquecento as a daily runabout for a couple of years now.
Apart from a clutch cable breaking, as they do, I've had no problems with reliability. I've just done general maintainence that you would do on any car. Parts are very cheap and easy to get. They are fun to drive, but not as go-karty as a BL mini! But then again, what is?! They are not at their best on a motorway, being a bit slow and noisy. Mine will plod along all day at 65 without sounding like it is going to explode, though! I reckon fuel consumption is about 50mpg in general driving.
I don't know about the Seicento, but the Cinq was before the Fiat 'red key' business. As far as rust goes, the only signs on mine are around the rear end. So check the spare wheel well and bumper mountings.
They will also surprise your friends with their tardis-like qualities. Push-bikes? Christmas trees? Yep. They will fit. Much to the amazement of onlookers....
Overall, I would recommend these to anyone looking for an unusual, fun little runabout.

The 1108cc engines [overhead cam] suffers with head gasket problems [and so does the same engine in a punto, and the 1242 8v], during the time I had mine it went three times, but they are really easy to repair and once you have the inner wheel arch liner out theres room to get to the cam belt end.
I did most of my mileage in mine on the motorway, loved it, yes they are noisy at speed but it was happy to go all day at 70.
One thing though, the stock sporting suspension is way too high, it is firm, just too high.
It was a great car but I rarely see any about now

I am the owner of an original complete cinquecento Abarth and love it to bits... I have had it since I was about 14 when I started using it for auto testing not realising it was an original 'leave the showroom' car of which not many were built as most now have copy fibre glass parts! I urge anyone who hasn't got one to get one as that are brilliant fun, cheap and a possible future icon...

All engines from 2001 - 2004 are 1.1 multi-point, so no difference in power across the range. Don't get the base model 's' (with unpainted bumper) they use a weak, rare, gearbox. Probably any seicento sporting from 1998 - 2004 will do. i wouldn't get a cinquecento (unless you have a particular fondness for them) as things like speedo cable, headlights, water pipes, exhaust hangers etc are hard to source Incidentally i believe they are the nearest thing to a classic mini readily available
