Right guys and gals, I am a little rubbish at adverts - mostly because I hate the whole process of letting a car go I think. This one is particularly lovely, so I am even more reluctant to let it go. I will try and cover as much as I can about the car, both good and bad. But as people with genuine interest will know - coming to have a look at the car, poke it, sit in it, drive it, touch it - is the only way to really get to know it. So excuse the long advert - but if you're really interested you'll get to the bottom of it.
Here is the spec list for when it was ordered up - I know the SPEC hunters will get in a tizzy about it:
201 3 FAHRPROGRAMME F.4-GANG-AUTOM (electronic 3 programme 4speed g/box)
216 SERVOTRONIC
219 SPORT LEATHER STEERING WHEEL
286 BMW LM RAD/BMW STYLING
314 HEATED WINDSCREEN WASHER NOZZLES
401 SLIDING/VENT ROOF. ELECTRIC
458 SEAT ADJUSTMENT, ELECTRIC, F DRIVER/PASS
498 HEADREST IN REAR, MECHANIC. ADJUSTABLE
500 HEADLIGHT WASHER SYS/INTENSIVE CLEANING
511 LEUCHTWEITENREGULIERUNG AUTOMA (Headlight Adjust)
537 PARK VENTILATION
540 CRUISE CONTROL
552 BORDCOMPUTER III
560 CO-PILOTS IN RR COMPARTMENT (I have searched - I cannot find a co-driver in the glovebox)
812 ENGLAND VERSION (ENGGEEEERRLAAAND?)
850 ADD FUEL TANK FILLING FOR EXPORT
940 SPECIAL REQUEST EQUIPMENT
Equipment
So what all that stuff above means is that it was a fairly basic but really well equipped '7 er in the right colour! As stated it has a really cool sport steering wheel - reminiscent of the thing 3 spokes found in E28's, this is probably because this was the absolute rollout year for E32's. It has lovely leather interior which is still supple and soft, with no rips tears or wear - I have fed it with Poorboys Leather Stuff a couple of times - giving it the full bovine massage. It still has a couple of more feeds to go and then it will be really really nice to sit in. It has a really cool colour of wood - like a beech wood, with natural grain and no lacquer on it - looks immense. It has the usual basic spec - four electric windows, electric tilt and slide sunroof, trip computer - with dash display, cruise control, really cool wash/wipe system, electric mirrors, really decent uprated sound system (all stock and behind original grilles) with a modern headunit - which fits in beautifully with the dash. There is a load of other cool stuff inside which I kind of just take for granted. It's basic for a 7 series of the age, but still miles ahead of what the peasants were plodding around in in 1986! Just remembered the car is ABS-equipped that still works as it should - more than it should in the icey conditions we have had this year.
Exterior
This fantastic 730i is finished in Diamantschwarz Metallic - the only colour for one of these, no arguing. It has full chromework - which again looks absolutely spot on for this period of car. No Shadowline here - it's not a sports car, and there is no point making it look like one IMO. The bodywork is really really neat, there are a couple of marks which I have tried to provide pictures of as best as I can - this consists of a small crease on the passenger front door, and a small dink on the passenger C-pillar. Annoying - as these are the only blemishes on otherwise straight bodywork. The paint has some swirls and marks here and there - but given a clean and a polish comes up superbly.
I have had it up on the ramp at the workshop and it is really really neat underneath - I am happy to accommodate a request to get it in the air prior to purchase for a prospective buyer to come have a poke about.
Interior
This 7'er is in fantastic condition inside. It was specified with Silber Leder (0227)leather upholstery - to you and me this is Grey Leather. You would have noticed it was specified with Electrically Adjustable two-stage heated front seats (even the headrest is electric) as well as the adjustable folding armrests, and with super comfortable rear headrests that tilt as you put your head on them. The leather is in really nice condition - is still supple and soft and cossetting. It's a really superb place to be. It has lit vanity mirrors up front and a really nice audio system - speakers have been upgraded, modern headunit fitted that kind of blends in with the dash, and even has correct backlighting. Original BMW mats are still present and correct - and in really nice not-grubby condition, as are the carpets underneath. The boot is not the usual murder-scene affair either. Everything is there and very presentable. Spare wheel and all tools are in place.
This goes without saying but absolutely everything (everything) works exactly as it should and feels tight and together and very Germanic.
Engine & Transmission
This is fitted with the teensy weensy petrol sipping (this is a LIE) 3 litre M30 engine, mated to a four speed 3-programme electronically controlled automatic gearbox. The original owner of the vehicle - a Mr. L.J.C Radford of St Ives - owned the vehicle from May 1987 to March 2011 when Guy, of this here RR parish took it on. To have had one owner for 24 years speaks volumes of how well this vehicle has been maintained. The original company that ordered the car was where Mr Radford worked, then purchased for himself as some sort of retirement gift. Guy then had the car from March 11 until I purchased it ~ April/May 2013. Guy spent an absolute wedge on a full Inspection II service which is documented and was absolutely meticulous, I have then spent a lot of time doing further maintenance - this beauty really deserves it.
Everything works exactly as it should and when it should - the switchable autobox works beautifully, and in S mode it really picks up its skirt. The gearbox selects smoothly and goes about its business lovely. This 7 was built for destroying miles on the 'bahn - 85-90 is where it is really happy cruising at a ridiculously low RPM.
The cruise control is a life saver for long trips and works exactly as it should - including the capacity to remember the speed it was set to previously.
Under the bonnet is a beauty to behold with everything being just so - it has not been cleaned, it's just clean. Even the inspection light attached to the bonnet works - as you will see in one of the pictures below.
Wheels, Tyres & Breaks
The car comes with BMW M-Parallel wheels. They are original, not repro's. Tyres are paired - fronts are BF Goodrich 235/40 18 and rears are 255/35 18 Bridgestone RE040. The rear wheels are spaced 20mm on hubcentric bolt-on spacers to get 'the look' 4-up they rub on big bumps on the outside edge - however with anything less they are fine. Fronts are fine for clearance. The wheels are presentable - with little marks here and there. All tyres have a lot of life in them. The brakes were a little spongy when I got the car but a bleed and a fluid refresh helped that no end. The car breaks straight and true, with the ABS kicking in as it should.
I am sure there is stuff I have missed out - there always is, but feel free to get in contact to chinwag about the car, or much better - come have a look.
Price, Swaps, P/EX
As stated before the only reason for sale is boredom really - I have a lot of cars on 'the list' of stuff that I need to own in my life - E32 7 series was one of them. I am pretty firm on the £2500 price - I know it's strong money, but neat E32's are really thin on the ground at the moment and I think this one is worth every penny - especially sitting on M-Parallels.
I am open to swaps for other cars - try me - I have a pretty eclectic taste in cars, the only rule really is that German stuff is preferred. Also I am not looking for projects or basket cases - I have a project E28 that I need to get on with, so ideally need something in similar condition to this.
Now for the bit anyone really cares about - PICATCHURS!1!1
Really cool idea is the rear headrests I mentioned - they swivel with your head as you lean back into them
One of the major bits that lets the car down in my eyes - some laquer peel on the rear quarter edge with the boot
A couple of the small marks on the drivers side rear door
This is the crease on the passenger door - god knows how this happened
I presume these marks are to do with the above picture - they polish out pretty well - as you'll see when you come view the car
Here's the dink on the C pillar I mentioned, I am being brutally honest with these faults - as I hate not telling people before they turn up - from five steps away you cannot see these blemishes and I would really have to point them out.
That lovely sports steering wheel pictured here - you can see how the headunit blends in not-too-badly as well.
Couple of picture just to show all pixels are perfect on the dash displays and the selectable gearbox programmes all work as they should
The light works and everything!
That all original lovely engine bay
A close up of the really nice wood in this car - unlacquered and a really light colour - beautiful
That's that folks - hope it's interesting reading if nothing else.
