So after a year and a half of driving around in my little 1.0 vw polo with the usual dub stuff (slammed, wheels ect) i picked up this for my second car a few weeks ago This is how it looked when i got it (sorry about the quality) It's been stood up for 10 years but its a solid car with hardly any rust underneath, just faded paint and bit of rust here and there on the bodywork. We got it home and after firing in a new set of plugs it fired up and runs/drives nice. I don't have photos for the next few bits of work but as i have this thread now ill make sure to get some! The car is currently in our garage as the plan is to get it on the road for november so my brother can learn to drive in my polo. After a good check over i found the car has pretty much new brake parts all round, the front caliper were a little seized so that was sorted and new pipes made for the front. Will have to update this a bit more later on as got to get some work done

So following on from the last post after sorting out the brakes i started making a list of things needed for the mot. New tyres were ordered from Tyretraders.com at a very reasonable price but they are budget tyres, A bit of a risk but being H rated and coming in at £93 for a set of 4 185/70/13's it was worth a try. They arrived the next day and look/feel pretty decent so should be fine. I also brought a few more bits including steering rack gaiters, Cambelt kit and service parts, New thermostat to go with the new housing i have, Oh and i have a set of Twin weber 40's with a manifold on their way. Not sure whether i will fit them but the deal was to good to miss out on! The plan was to get the car on the road and just tidy up the few holes/rust on the wings but after sorting out one wing and painting it we decided we might as well do the lot while were at it! So today prep work started on the front end of the car and there is a few small holes behind the headlights that need sorting but nothing major. The plan of this car is keeping it retro but with a touch of euro style as I'm into the whole vag scene aswell so that means a few things. Low, Smooth & clean! Front bumper is being ditched (rear was already off) and a custom front end is being made as when the bumpers removed it leaves behind half a dozen holes and although it looks better but there is just something not right with it. So all the bumper mount holes ect are going to be filled in and smoothed off, the side mouldings on the doors are coming off and getting the same treatment, also the rear wiper and washer jet are going. I'm sure ill find some over things to get rid off along the way Heres a few more photos from today..

Nice to see another Capri project! An '85 Laser like mine too Like you I wasn't too keen on the Mk3 bumpers (they're a little bit big) but there's something not quite right without them. I considered the smoothed look but went with small Escort bumpers instead. Sounds good so far! Looking forward to seeing updates on this.

Sounds good to me,reminds me of this from the Street Machine days Love that car! I have tryed looking online for heavlily modded capris but i really cant find much, that gives me a fair idea of how the front of mine should look but I'm going to keep the splitter/lip bit of the lower valance. Also just because i drive a vw and I'm into the scene doesnt mean I'm going to ruin this. I have allways been to classic cars and hot rods/custom cars as my dad built his own rod. So i want to essentially take this capri an make it mine with influences from all the car scenes so i should end up with not only a car that i love, it will also be a one off!

This sounds like a pretty cool project, its nice to see someone being brave enough to go a different route on modding a car than the tried and tested and if it turns out anything like that yellow one I reckon you're on to a winner keep it up

"giving it to a dubber" will ruin it significantly less than leaving it under a tree for the next 10 years Be interested to see how this one goes, I guess i'm going a little down the euro route with mine - will be looking forward to seeing one done all-out. Good luck with it, and be ready to get friendly with that welder... A MK3 version of the street machine one up there would be real nice to see, with the deeper bonnet/ more aesthetically pleasing lights up front.

Really cool to see that people are interested in this car, and defiantly motivating me to get it all done. So far my day has consisted of scraping off under seal, grinding away rust and discovering a few more holes. Will try to get some photos up later on as its tea break over and time to get cracking again!

Quick update for you all, Have now decided to respray the whole car another colour instead of just a exterior blow over in the original burgundy. Not 100% sure on what colour but i really like the idea of a metallic/rainbow flaked midnight purple!

lovely old capri you've courted there, they just can't help rusting those spring hangers & floorpans. But welding upside down is the only true way to bond with your capri, like having to trim the wife's bearded parts, a rich and fulfilling experience

So a fair bit of prep work is done on the car and today i started prepping the engine bay, also going to do a bit of smoothing under there while in at it. It would be rude not to Also ordered some 2" lowering springs and a 2" lowering block kit today. They whre the lowest springs and blocks i could find so will see how it sits then go from there. If the springs don't drop it enough i will most likely chop a coil or two off them, failing that ill have to make up some coilovers. Not sure how ill get the back lower without custom blocks or de-cambered leaf springs, anyone got any info? A few photos from today.. Oh and for the colour I'm really liking something like this metallic/rainbow flake midnight purple

Yep, de-cambering springs is about your only option for the rear unless you decide to go all out and 5-link it or something!
Keep an eye on the forums/ ebay, i picked up some -2" Leda single leafs pretty cheap.

Update time! This arrived today... 2" lowering springs and blocks, new fanbelt, and a bonnet stay grommet as its missing from Burton's. They also included a cool diary book thing which i will proberly keep in the car to write in service history or any bits i do to it. I also have a thermostat from them which i brought a few weeks ago to go in, its the cooler one (82 deg i think). Heres a few photos of how the cars looking now.. Apart from the usual bodywork dents, scrapes ect the following has been done: rear bumper delete and smoothed rear valance, rear wiper/washer delete, side moulding delete, aerial delete, front bumper delete and custom front valance (not finished) Delete meaning removed and any holes welded up and smoothed over. The new front valance needs a bit more shaping and obviously blending in but you get a rough idea from the photos. Really looking forward to getting this finished and on the road, its turning out to be a pretty one off car!
