I know it's nowhere near bargainous (not doing very well, am I? ). I blame ITV4 with their repeats of the New Avengers... but I've been having obscene lustings after the idea of a Broadspeed Jag recently Hnnnng! Buy a ropey old Jaasaaag and build it into one of these using old eggboxes and filler. It is your destiny... Ooooof

Not a Senator but a Carlton GSi on the Bay at the moment. I have heard from a couple of good sources that the GSi's are far more fun to drive than they ever should be.

I'm personally not a massive fan of those S classes but the equipment level of both it and the A8 put the Jag to shame, being a few years younger helps no doubt.. They look like good buys, so long as all the electrics behave themselves, though that seller of the A8 sounds a bit optimistic with their claim of 30mpg..

Hmmm, I suppose you can't see the 'styling' from the inside?... the previous Mark of Granada isn't too bad though I reckon, just looks a bit like a big Sierra to me

I can't see it mentioned already - how about the Volvo 960? The 3.0 litre straight-6 delivers 204bhp. Also, RWD if you're into that sort of thing. They go for just shy of a grand for a good one (and they're generally all well looked after) but at a push I reckon you could get one for £800.

Ha! I love the photo of the XJ40 at Santa Pod!
I have long liked the front of the Senator, they remind me of the Ferrari Pinin!
The W220 S Class like that Y reg one are very impressive cars in so many ways. They raised the game in terms of ride and refinement and still feel modern now. With a 5 litre V8 they are really quite fast. My brother had a W220 S500 about ten years ago. It was a complete dog of a car sadly, which turned out to be catastrophically unreliable with truly appalling build quality. Having the car constantly fixed under warranty was frustrating, particularly as the car actually stranded him - but once out of warranty, so many things went wrong it was almost as if various parts of the car were queuing up to fail. Some of the bills the car produced were breathtaking. Thousands of pounds. I can't exaggerate how dreadful it was. Problems were not just limited to the A/C, suspension, electrical systems, electric seats and fragile trim, suspension failure and myriad problems with the brakes. It went badly rusty too - so much so it had holes in it at only a few years old. The car he had before it was a W140 S Class. That was a much better quality car. It is sad, because I think the W220 is a pretty car.

The 960 reminds me of the Volvo my Grandfather had. His was a bit older than that though. It was a good car.

Renault Safrane was mentioned and the interiors are awesome but my mate owned one as he was so regular at the Renault dealer for parts they gave him his own keys to the premises.Renault dealer retired early to the Bahamas Scorpio - just plain ugly imho Rover 75 had 2.5 and Cdt - both most unreliable cars i owned. I'm not willing to give up the Renault 25 that quickly : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renault_25Get the Level 6 spec if you can find it : Level 6: Automatic Climate Control, Cruise Control, voice synthesizer, inflatable cushions, memory seat, memory mirrors, power door locks, power trunk release, power trunk close, variable-assistance (speed-sensitive) power steering, alarm. The Executive has the comfiest looking interior : That's not Executive but ultra rare Baccara (by wood trim) Jaguar X Type........ I have been running my 3.0 V6 4x4 since last July as an everyday car! Averages 22mpg round town but on a run I get 37mpg. Not bad I recon!!! Parts are cheap and available seeing as it's a Ford in drag...... Loved every minute with mine, quick, comfy, smooth.... Just been a joy!!! Tom Magic mpg figures there -who says makers claims are unrealistic ?(btw Extra Urban mpg 36.4 mpg is basically a figure that even if you get within 80% you are doing well -you are over 100% on the figures! Free motoring! Urban mpg 18.7 mpg Extra Urban mpg 36.4 mpg Average mpg 27 mpg

I always fancied a Saab 9000. As mentioned, I wouldn't rule out an Alfa V6 based on reliability. The 12 valve version is fantastic no matter which Alfa it's in and they are very reliable. I only got rid of my 155 V6 cos of the fuel costs! Miss it everyday, Dartford tunnel with the sunroof and windows open was amazing.

X 300 s and Xj40s aren't proper Jaaaags though. Series 3 can be had for peanuts and are lovely. This is mine. 13 mpg is what she does but that pininfarina styling makes up for it. 4.2 straight 6. Seriously thirsty and prone to serious rust issues now, I love them! However, values I think have started to rise quite a bit.
