I bought this from Overdrive on here a few weeks ago after dedicating my honda c90 as weekly transport, yep I ride this every day to work... I was basically looking for a fun weekend car. Went looking for mr2s as I refused to join the mx5 craze, but after seeing my mates one and having a shot I needed one in my life Its a 1995 g-limited so has very 90s suede seats, and lsd and all the gadgets like power steering and a/c. Heres a photo from the ad, which is essentially how I got it: Got it home and gutted the interior to give it a clean. washed the carpets and seats, and hoovered up the bag of walkers squares that had been crushed through the carpet and all of the muck that had gathered beneath the seats! Sold my old car within days, so had a big wad of moneys to spend Bought a cambelt kit with water pump, new aux belts as these were squeeky and new oil & filter. After stripping down the engine it actually looked like the water pump and cambelt were quite new (within 10,000 miles) but I replaced them anyway for my own piece of mind. My mate was breaking an mx5 (i have loads of mates with mx5s haha) so I bought coilovers (the suspension on it at the moment is ruining my life), a gv lip, a ducktail and a snap off steering wheel boss. I also bought a tow hook because I like my cars/bikes looking silly and way ott. Replaced the knackered front plate too with an import sized one. much better! These wheels are sitting in my shed and will go on once the new suspension is on (its too low for anything other than the 17s at the mo). Also means I can get rid of the halfords clearance wheels. And finally, the gv lip. I'm finished sanding it down and its just waiting for paint, but it makes the car look amazing. Wasn't sure about it to begin with but now that i've seen it on its a go! Thats it for now, coilovers should be going on this week, which means the new wheels and gv can go on. Then i'll get my mate, who doesnt have a mx5, to take some nice photos of it. hoping its going to be a reliable little weekend mobile! oh and Overdrive, if that was your cd in the glovebox, your taste in music is grand, i just play that cd on repeat haha.

Firstly, I have developed a new found respect for these after doing a track day in my mates one the other weekend.
Secondly, what is the cd? spill the beans!

Strangely I kinda like it on the big fox alloys. Big wheels normally look a bit poo on mx5s, but those look pretty decent.

In all honesty with the GV they don't look too bad, but the handle and feel like kack! So they have to go. The new ones are 16s so will still fill the arches without dropping it to the floor (its not a fan of speed bumps), but will be more sticky-outy and will handle better . One day i'll hit a pothole with the roof off and get chucked out. Even changing to coilovers will be a huge improvement, allowing me to have a bit of suspension travel haha. I'll hopefully be doing some sort of track stuff at some point, need to wait and see The CDs just a mix of ac/dc, zepp, gnr and that sort of stuff. Must be 100 or so songs. Its ace

Pretty lengthy update coming seeing as I forgot about this thread haha. I tidied up the cam cover when doing the cas o-ring: Started collecting these : Had to buy a tap and die set and have currently drilled and retapped well over 13 threaded holes. It is infuriating! Swapped out the suspension for adjustable coilovers. So I now have travel This is what came off: That left me like this... : Bought a vented headlight cover, and rather than painting it black or colour coding it I vinyl wrapped it. Just some stickerbomb stuff I had laying around: Went for an oil and filter change, and while I was underneath undersealed the WHOLE car. Took 6 or so hours but i'm hoping it was worth my while!: Next I wanted to redo the black sill paint. It was hideously faded and really ruined the look of the paintwork. an £8.50 can of hammermite stonechip shield and it looks like new! probably my favourite thing that ive done to the car: It was funny until the neighbours came out: My mate Connor that stays up the road from me has just gotten insured on his 5 so we went for some cheesy photos... Bloody photogenic these things. Makes my car look clean haha: I didnt take photos but I also stripped the interior and gave everything a proper hoover and cleanout. Feel a lot happier driving it know that there isnt 19 years worth of tat under the seats... Thats me updated then haha, Let me know what you think!? I know it isnt to everyones tastes but I Like it

You know what I'm getting more and more inclined to go buy one of these - the only downside being the fact i could do with the rear seats every now and again. I think I'm going to time the amount my backs are used over the coming months so the other half cant whine as much.
Stupid question, but do they feel nippy? I'm not clued up on what the power output is, but for a 1.8 i was a bit dubious it would.

The 1.8 has the right amount of power for what the car is. In other words, yeah they are pretty nippy. You'd be surprised at how quickly you can to illegal speeds actually. But it isnt the nippiness thats exciting, its the RWD and the noise that makes you laugh . Funnest car i've ever owned.

Thats EXACTY what that car needed. Nice work that man! You can keep the CD Isn't it just? . Feels like a totally different car. I was so chuffed to have it sorted even cleaned it with my finest fairy liquid. Plans for the future not in order are: Shock tower brace Weld on a master cylinder stopper that i'll make Roll cage Front and rear disks... pads are quite meaty but the disks are quite worn Properly paint the cam cover Another oil change soon to flush out the last of the old oil Fix the slight oil leak at the back of the cam cover (CAS oring change hasnt stopped this) Change diff and gearbox oil aswell as changing the gear boots as these are shredded Tidy up & clean the engine bay Polybush the everything The list goes on... Then depending on how long I keep the car I might even look into forced induction for much fun many wow... if funds allow.

Poly bushing will be interesting as it is upper and lower wishbones. I did my MK1 MR2 ad it was a slog! Also, very easy to knacker up the handling when doing it. The rear diff cage acts as a rather ingenious camber adjuster... have a look around online and you will see what i mean, but i guarantee most wheel alignment places wont touch it if it gets thrown out of balance...

When I was changing the suspension over the bushes looked very worn and cracked so i will definitely change them this summer along with the droplinks. Might just get a set of standard rubber bushes then just to keep mr MOT happy in november... seeing as it will rarely see a track anyway.

The strut brace arrived today, so when I got home for work I set about giving it a clean... Got a bit carried away and ended up fitting the cam cover and the brace! Brace just cleaned with WD and scotchbrite: Then everything together: Chucking fuffed. Made a nice change from this... Also, picked up the wheels tonight... Never imagined it would be such a struggle getting 4 wheels in a 5 but jesus it was a faff! Worth it though as I now have 4 of these sitting in my room Plans now are to get an OEM lip to replace the gv and then i'm fancying a sort of retro racer... so eunos door stripes and some dinky chrome mirrors? I think so yes

Nice little motor you got yourself i bought one a 1.8 mk1 in black as a runabout and i have to admit i love it, not the fastest thing but the way it handles makes up for it.I wouldnt fit polly bushes unless it was a track toy only good standard ones work great for road use. I did a mazda on track day at brands hatch a couple of weeks ago and a couple of guys had turbos fitted and now i want one definitely the way to go

Would love to turbo it at some point! Wheels are on! Also raised the suspension 1.5cm front and rear to compensate for the smaller wheels. Handles and rides 10x better than before. Starting chucking it down half way through but I soldiered on... worth it

That looks really sweet now. More purposeful looking but not overdone.
Personally I'm not a fan of the chrome mirrors - wouldn't they stand out like a sore thumb on your car? Matt black would be nice.

I think they will look quite smart as they are subtle, so for the moment i'm set on a pair of those! I think the oem lip will make them fit a bit better with the car too.
