Wow. What a find. Clean as a whistle.
Those pics bring back memories : I built one in '93/'94.

It is so clean. Really chuffed with the build. The chap belonged to a classic car restoration company. Everything is top drawer.
thanks for comment.

Wow - I bet that won't hang around with the 1700 going in it.

That's a nice car and realy like what you are doing and the quality of the finish. Is that a new dash panel shown in the pictures?

The dash is a new ally panel and goes a bit further down and has returns on to finish the look off a bit better. Never really liked the Westfield panel.
Sorry about the red paint but are going for a bit of a BRG and red theme. May change back at a later date.

Actually the drums may be getting replaced all together. Seen an interesting disc conversion. Tempting with the new fire power under the bonnet.

A small update. All the front end has been stripped. Shot blasted and re-coated. Steering rack clean and painted. The front callipers fully stripped and blasted. New pistons and seals and rebuilt (in red ) Brand new drilled and grooved discs and braided hoses finish the brakes off nice. Pedal box mods ongoing and that will be the front end clean and ready for the engine. A few pics.

Nice, surprised it hasn't got pre lit bodywork at that age. I hillclimbed a pre lit with a 1600 all steel crossflow and it was an animal, no power under 5000 rpm but would pull on cam to 9500. Yours is gonna be hard work to drive on the road I would think as the clubmans spec motor will be much the same. Good luck

What is difficult to see from you pictures if if its a Low line SE or a high line SE during that period when they had X-flows the bonnet line was really low and only enough room to cover the X-flow - later when peeps wanted to fit CVH and Pinto they raised the bonnet line - mad the front look bulky IMHO. The bonnets and nose for those cars are rare as hens. If it is a low line then changing to something like a Zetec is a PITA as clearance is a problem - but its well worth it. My 1989 Low line Zetec. Type 9 and 4.5 Axle - 17.5 or so per 1000 in top - first was useless - but engine was sweet to 7000 on 45's and weber Alpha. - enormous fun. gearing was so perfect - mates tuned XE 200+ BHP Wide (read heavy)had a job to keep up with it. If thinking Zetec look for a Morgan Ford to type nine bell housing really narrow and allows the engine to sit further back and eases the bonnet problems ( if you have a low line) Nice car.

That's a nice looking Westfield right there, will be nice with Zetec, congrats on that. We think its a lowline SE. Not sure if standard but the engine mountings has two holes one lower that the other. As this car originally was fitted with a 1300 xflow which I believe is around 45mm shorter than 1700, then the second hole must accommodate the taller 1700. Will be a shame to cut the bonnet for Webers. Is this absolutely necessary on 1700 xflows???

Yes it is in there. May be a bit too much for road use and possible change at a later day. We will see.
