They rot like the Chevette did, check the pillars and the floorpans, hopefully you get yourself a good one

Check everywhere, they really can rot.
Rusty ones are'nt worth very much.

They can rot badly, pay particular attention to the area below the washer bottle & where the battery sits.Check the front chassis rails (swan necks) where they curve down by the front wheel arch they rot from the inside out here. Top of the A posts where it meets the front wing is a rust trap, rear of the sills inner & outer go rear arches are susceptible, spare wheel arch well & front floor pans rust due to water ingress. As has been said rusty Cavs aren't worth a lot unless they're a 2 door saloon. However they do create a lot of attention when out & about due to there rarity now

The only thing about this cavi i went to look at is there were no papers with it. I plan to apply for them before handing over the cash, what info do i need from the car to apply and can it be done via a form from the post office or does it jave to be done online?

As said grab a form from the post office. You will need make, model, colour, year, reg and vin number.

The DVLA will write to the current registered keeper and then wait for a response. So you can't really apply for the papers before you buy it as you'll have to wait 6 weeks for the docs to come through.
I'd just take a punt and hope it does not turn out to be stolen. Make your mind up depending on who is selling it and what their story is for losing the V5 and how long they've had the car and how they got it.
