Was just going into the tesco near my work , got some of the essentials . And wasgoing to get some diesel as I was running a wee bit low . So I drives up and gets in the q behind a guy in a van next minute he starts to move off and then stops the brand new mercedes at the other pump does the same then a guy in a very nice jag does it aswell ? It turned out that the tanker driver put his loads into the wrong tanks oh dear . I did the correct thing and drove off and went to the shell nxt door . Turned out that 15 cars in total were knackered. Ouch !!! :$ that would have cost .

Interesting. My insurance company offered me an add-on to the policy when I renewed whereby I'd pay a higher premium and, in return, they'd pay out if I ever filled up with diesel instead of petrol by accident. I refused, on the grounds that I'd never be that stupid. But I'd never considered that a filling station might put the wrong fuel in their tanks! I guess their insurance would cover it if that happened?

Hi tesco had to pay for the rac to come out and drain the car tanks . Its a busy petrol station aswell I'm sure it would have cost a small fortune . As for the delivery driver I wonder if he got pumped. Poor c##t. He will be getting some stick for that .

That's pretty amazing. I'm wondering how they don't have some system in place to prevent this? I know diesel fuel pump nozzles are bigger so they won't fit into a petrol filler neck (still leaves the possibility of putting petrol in a diesel)

I assumed that there would be some sort of alarm or something of a shut down valve so that it couldn,t happen at that scale . But there. Cant be or it would never have happened.just goes to show howeasy it can be done .

Er, the tanker driver doesn't fill up the bunkers with a petrol pump nozzle, he'd be there for days!

Hi, as said the delivery is made through 4" pipes, same for petrol or diesel. The protocol is the driver tells the garage he has say 20,000lts of diesel and the garage nominates which tank it goes in. If it's the wrong one or there is insufficient room then it is down to the garage.

I think the person that wrote this post knew that. . What I got from their post was they may have a system where the tanker drivers can't mix their nozzles up.

Ouch! Accidents do happen though, if you think about a sceanario like this and how often tankers make deliveries, it's amazing it doesn't happen more often.

I hope Tesco don't try and squirm out of paying full costs for it though!

This happened near were I lived last year and it was at a Tesco petrol station.
