I have a cunning plan involving a turbo pinto to make the transit go better, as janspeed exhaust manifolds are a bit thin on the ground rather than make something up from scratch is it possible to hang a turbo off the existing cast iron manifold, also all the turbo pinto installs seem to use the turbo top mounted above the manifold rather than below, i've got loads of room so is there any reason to do this??
Ta very much, planning on using the EFI inlet manifold and LPG fueling via a BLOS carb set up as a blow through rather than suck through as I don't really want a mega long inlet tract with gas going through the turbo.
Would appreciate anyones guidance on this who has done one before.
Edit am planning on using a small turbo so it spools up quickly for more bottom end and mid range torque power, top end is already fine does this make sense?

200sx s13 (ca18det engine) manifold will line up with a pinto port wise, you can buy flanges for pintos off kit car sites, chop off sx flange and weld on pinto one and jobs a goodun if you flip the sx manifold it would give you a nice little top mount too as the exhaust are on opposite sides on a ca18det and a pinto

Is it better to use a mocol oil cooler type sandwich plate for the turbo oil feed rather than take a feed from out of the oil pressure sensor drilling then it returns back in the system rather than straight into the sump?

The oil return is pressureless so it needs to go into the sump, above oil level (preferably). I have always used a T-fitting from the oil pressure sender port to feed the turbo.
I have been running a turbo Pinto since 1999 and it works great. If you want it in a Transit and really use the torque I would advise to take care to get the fuelling right, it's quite possible to melt pistons of you really let the engine labour under boost.
Don't use too small a turbo, it will then strangle the top end. I really like the Saab/Volvo Mitsubishi TD04 turbos, a TD04-13 or 14 is probably a good bet for your application. Quick spool, compact and supports decent power too.
Regards
Gustaf

Regards Gustaf Thanks, it's good to hear from someone who has done one, was worried about the oil using the turbo as a shortcut bypassing the feed round the rest of the engine. What sort of manifold are you using? Also do you know which model vehicles that turbo was fitted to so I can keep looking in the scrapyard? Are you running a carb or injection? Thanks very much

Yep no probs to meet somewhere at Gatwick, any chance of a photo so I can see if it looks like it will fit? Thank you
