I need to extend my gearknob after an engine swap in my Chevy
ive searched for cool gearknobs but they are either very expensive or done to death aka dildo/samurai sword/grenade etc
has anyone made their own and if so how. i'm thinking of putting something (not sure what yet) into some resin, let it set and drill it to suit the thread
just hoping for ideas or do's and don't's please
thanks

How about a particularly large, unusually-shaped and perhaps slightly hairy pork scratching encased in resin?

How about a nice crystal glass or tumbler filled with resin and drilled to suit?
Or a beer can, beer bottle etc?

I have half the camshaft from the original engine as mine, weirdly the bearing surface is smooth and comfy in the hand...

Sadly no pics, but I once witnessed a golf ball drilled out and have a nut glued into it to make a knob for a girl with small hands. Looked pretty good sprayed up red to match the bodywork. Obviously it was fitted to a golf...

^^^^ Sorry, but that did make me chuckle.
Someone once let me take a spin in their Westfield. Stirring the straight-cut gears was via a cut-down Scania steering column. The splines near cut the hand off me.

heres one ive made to fit my e36 recently using a volvo 360 differential pinion gear that decided to wreak havok on my drivetrain. was very easy, simply got a bit of 1"by 1" bar, drilled a 14.2mm hole through the centre on a lathe, placed the bar inside the pinion and sif bronzed it in with a tig welder. used a pair of m5 grubscrews to keep it in place on the shaft (lol)

best one I've got of my old one - old tank shell, that nobody actually knows *how* I got (it turned up in my room when I was about 12 - kept it for about 11 years before turning it into a gearknob, still got it 6 years after the fact)

Even though this is done to the death and already there was a nicer example above, here's an example of a quick n' dirty one which lasted well a couple of years. Bought a "11" pool ball from this forum. Drilled a hole ini it: Put some sticky tape on the gear lever... ... and then forced it by twisting and pulling down at the same time. Stayed in place well enough. Renaults do not have a thread, in the OEM ones there is a plastic shrinked on to the gear lever... This was a red Renault 11 where this was attached to I know this is not the best way to put one in place, but it was better than the original, and fun to do.
