good evening fellow retro riders I have a couple simple questions regarding a Peugeot 2,5 engine ldy convoy with I think is the transit box on a r reg , I'm pretty sure these run the pug 2.5 as its not the transit lump , what id like to know is will the 1.9 xud engine bolt straight to the box or would it need the pilot box? also what flywheel? I'm pulling the 2.0 petrol lump and lpg out my truck and selling it on and fitting the 2.5 diesel engine and box/axle etc that I have in a doner van that I'm breaking but its gutless and non turbo so aint worth turning up the fuel, any thoughts on this other than fitting a transit td? thanks

convoy box is indeed, of Ford origin to my knowledge - if you want to fit the XUD, you're going to need the Pilot gearbox/flywheel Options: For ease of fitting, and cheapness - fit the gutless Ford For more power potential, but moe cost - fit a XUD

yeah I will look for a td setup but for now ill use the pug 2.5 I got in the doner van ,
also I read that the pug and banana gearboxes although both being mt75 boxes they have different splines , so in theory if I threw the ford lump on the pug mt75 box could I just use the pug ldv clutch disc?,.

potentially! You would have to check the friction plates to see if they were indeed the same size however.
I used the pdf version of the Quinton Hazel clutch catalogue, to find which friction plates would work with the HDi pressure plate, and R380 gearbox. Just compare the info for one clutch, and use the search function to find any others with the same spec

I think the big citroen CX's used a 2.5 TD variant, mind they aren't exactly plentiful anymore either. I'm sure chairchild could come up with a suggestion of an alternative potential pump donor with the LDA? bit on it to control fueling when on boost, then 'all' you would have to do would be to lash on a turbo...
Make sure you run all the LPG out of the tank before pulling it apart they're heavy when empty and each 2l of propane weighs about 1kg, no point doing yourself an injury shifting it.

if you want turbo you need the whole lump, there are many differences internally in pug turbo engines to non turbo, different compression ratios, stronger rods, I know the turbo xud has a forged steel crank not a cast one that the n-a lump has.

ill play it by ear , once the diesels in and running ill watch out for a complete new engine , the 2.5td and xud td are around the same power but the xud may be better I reckon,.

from what I can gleam from the interwebs: the 2.5 is generally, a worse engine, when compared to the XUD. IF you're going to actually spend money, put it towards a turbo XUD.
The Turbo XUD, as mentioned, is a different beast altogether compared to the NA XUD - you can physically fit a turbo to the NA lump, but there's a good chance it'll destroy the conrods, the second you go full throttle. Externally, both blocks have the same mounting points, and both share the same flywheel bolt pattern, and bellhousing bolt pattens. So if you want to get something for mocking up, and testing the overall installation - grab an NA XUD off ebay for £50-£80. They're relatively useless lumps, so they go for pennies. Expect to pay around £70-£150 for a complete turbo XUD - if they list it "without the pump" for the same money, walk away... they're simply not worth that much for a common as muck 1.9Td
The 2.1 XUD is also, externally identical mounting-wise, but vastly different manifolds. Rule of thumb, is it can give a good 10% more power across the board with the same mods... but they are a bit less common (not "rare" in the slightest, but just not as common, so turn up on ebay less often)
Currently helping a friend convert his Landy Defender to 2.1 XUD power - he went the long winded way of buying the lump, then the bosch pump, then the bosch injector pipes. Then the 306HDi flywheel, Ford Galaxy friction plate, and LDV Pilot gearbox (he rebuilt the Landy R380 using the Pilot input shaft) he's still got change from £500 for everything.
XUD power is an amazingly cheap conversion when compared to others - you can even blow an engine up, and simply buy another for less than a cambelt change....
