just dreaming about fitting a/c into a old car that never had it as an option , i was wondering if anyone knows of any modern cars that have compact parts that would be easier to fit in where they don't belong?

I'd go with a kit intended for hot rods.
Remember air con zaps power and adds weight so performance models often have it deleted.

yeah those kits sound okay but i havent got 5-600 to spend , was just hoping to patch something up off a common modern car that i can find in a scrapy
I'm sure some of the newer 2-3 cly cars must have fairly small compressors etc?

You can get a retro fit under dash unit from the states, fer4l has one in his car and put the link on his thread when I asked about it. They really look the part too all chrome and niceness! You would need to source the rest of the bits from the scrap yard. They were also a popular period accessory in Australia so it would be worth checking auction sites there, posting by sea mail isn't as expensive as you might think.

Quite a lot to be fair. The worry in my mind is working out how much refrigerant you'd need in a home brew system And implementing the built in system safeguards. |

Smart Fortwo has aircon as an option. Never seen one nor know what they are like but room is tight (I have a 54 Reg Fortwo) so suspect it's a compact system. Personally I like the idea on the diesel Fortwo that has an electric matrix to provide heat until engine coolant gets warm as that is more interesting to me at this time of year  |

The pump is a relatively small unit (about the size of an alternator). The condenser is also relatively small, the drier is a "normal" size (approx half a 2L pop bottle). And the evaporator unit fits into a removable section of the heater system, of approx 1 square foot

I'd say about 50-50 with smarts having or not having the A/C option. |
