I have a 2003 Cordoba tdi. Its the 130hp 6 speed one so marginally less dull. 1st unmodified daily i've had in a long long time, maybe ever! Thats marriage for you! No it's not! I got married, had a little girl so I bought an E34 540i touring... Admittedly my wife has no understanding of MPG, she just knew that I wanted one for year's! (For OP, that's my daily) The thing is you could buy a brand new car and it be the most unreliable something unpleasant ever. Case in point, a friend bought a brand new A4 and in the time he had it, it spent about half at the stealership. Gave up in the end and got a 7 series. If I were you, I'd be looking to the biggest engined stuff you insurance will allow (less stress placed on the engine generally) with as few owners as possible (more chance you'll avoid someone's dodgy DIY) and as much paperwork as possible. With some cars and "classic" policies you'd be surprised how big an engine you can get away with!

Wife's daily is exactly like this one but in blue. This one kind of fell in to my lap, 24k on the clock, FHSH & 2 owners, the 2nd being a retired lady Dr who got it with 100 miles on the clock. It's pretty much like new, really good car & I'm not telling anyone what I paid for it lol.

Money saving "staying standard" (that didn't last a week) Bora PD130. Usually has a bike rack on the roof.

For me it's a Mk3 Mondeo TDCI Estate, perfect for lugging around ridiculous amounts of building materials.

This is mine, had it three years now, can't fault it other than being too new and reliable.

at the moment I'm using a modified Citroen ZX 16v, the last year I used an E34 TDS touring, and before that I was using my 205 gti.

Rover 75 Tourer - much underrated motors and dirt cheap for what they are - ok, it's not 'retro' but at least, with design cues from Rovers past and faux walnut, I can kid myself it's 'retro styled' . . .

Retro dd's are awesome, and especially useful when they'll easily do 100+ miles on £20

I have too many cars to have a single 'daily' driver, but this shares the brunt of my 55 mile daily commute

Tricky working from home, but the daily slag is a 2014 Golf R. Weekends it's a 1993 Daihatsu Fourtrack or my 1995 B3 Alpina.
I yearn for a pre 60's pub cruiser though living in the chilterns :-)
