Who gets bored of their cars? I have to admit, I get a car, and I never ever seem to find one that I really love.
In the last decade, aside from a couple of Mini Cooper classics, I've gone back and forth between old fords and 80s/90s J stuff and had 1 or 2 cars every year. I buy something I really like, then straight away all I do is end up wanting something else. The last 10 years is roughly, Mini Cooper, mondeo, mk3 supra, Mini Cooper, e30 325i, scirocco, Capri, celica, classic beetle, mk3 supra, Capri, cortina, mk2 escort, cortina, celica, jaguar, celica, mx5.
The last 2 years in particular, I had a few months without a car then bought a good celica, got bored and decided I wanted a big jaguar saloon, bought a xj6, work went quiet and I couldn't sell the celica, so I sold the jag. I got the celica out of storage and spent some money on it and made it nice. As soon as it was sorted I got bored again and convinced myself rwd was the way to go, so I sold the celica and bought a mx5.
Which brings me to the present, the mx5, while good fun, it needs some bodywork done and is totally impractical, I can't even shut the boot with a bottle of wine stood upright. So again I've had enough and it will be up for sale and gone soon. Work is on the up again so I'm fancying another big jag.
Also not just the cars, I've had something like 28 motorbikes in the last 9 years.
Is anyone else like this? Or just me

At the moment I am driving a Jag XJ8 Sport. I love the way it drives and the cosy interior but after only a few months I am now selling it. Mainly to help out with the expense of getting my 325i Convertible back on the road after four years. Then....no doubt I will tire of the bmw and sell that too. I also have a few other cars I use, like a Mercedes 190E 2.3 16 Cosworth, but that's been parked up only a month after I taxed it because of a irritating fuelling issue....there's a Omega Irmscher 3.0 that is now to chav for me to use, The Saab 900 which I'm going to sell because I want something different. My mates always mock me because I buy something, do it up or restore it and say the usual ' I'm never selling this'....only for it to be on eBay a couple of months later.

I suffer from this affliction. In 4 years had 11 bikes and in 2 & a half years had 7 cars. I always have my heart set on something, then when I can't find one I settle for something else. So I look at other things and get bored of the current car because there's that much other stuff I want! Not even a week after buying a car I'm looking on eBay to see what there is then I get the itch. I find too many things too tempting then I feel I've not got the right car. Thankfully the bike problem has eased off now that I have 2 I REALLY gel with I still believe that one day I'll be able to gel with a car and stick with it for longer than 4 months. My best has been my mx5 at 8 months and worst my mk2 mr2 which lasted just shy of 2 days.

Nope, exact opposite really. I have 2 classics, one for over 10 years, the other about 5. Never want rid of either, I plan to have them as long as I can afford to. I spend a long time making sure I really want something before I buy it. Maybe you just haven't found the right car yet. Does it have any parallels with other things in your life? ?

I get bored easily, read stories now and again about a guy that's owned a car 30 years etc, i couldn't imagine that, went through an Imp phase about ten years ago, was in the club, went to a few meets etc, looked at a few meet pics recently and it's still the same faces with the same cars, i've had tons since then . (not a criticism in any way, just a comparison) I also find it hard to bond with cars, recently i had a E38 BMW 728i, loved it, did tons of work on it, started looking at 740's and 750's, ended up buying a 750iL V12, thought i would love it more than the 728 (in theory it was better all round) but i didn't, sadly i broke the 728 for spares , then sold the V12. Still feel bad about killing the 728 . Now have a lifted 95 Land Rover Discovery which i've spent a fortune on in the last couple of years, love driving it and it's a handy tool so will probably keep it for a while (would loose a lot of money selling anyway), also bought a 1980 Lotus Elite in June (wanted an Esprit but couldn't afford one, Elites are rarer anyway), been working on that (while using it), it's ok, and despite what reputation suggests pretty reliable, sounds nice but will probably sell it eventually. Had some spectacular stuff i've let go when i should have kept them, a 70 Mustang Mach1, spent three years building that from a shell, wasn't finished a month when i sold it, then bought a 68 Dodge Charger, took a while to get it sorted and reliable, then after a short time i was like "Meh" and sold it , some nice 3.0 Capri's too which are rising in value.

I seem to be having that problem and have been buying a car a month for the last few months, I've currently got 6 cars that I'm happy with and have made a mental note not to buy anything else this year... I usually see something that I've had a soft spot for going cheap then decide which one of my fleet I could live without or which one I'd be able to sell quickly enough. In the past 2 months I sold a Lancia Beta to buy an FSO, Sold a Volvo 340 to buy a Saab 99, Swapped a Carlton for a Camry and last night I sold a 306 dizzler sedan to buy a Proton Jumbuck. When you see what I've sold in order to buy cars you'll probably think I'm on Crack! Sold this See you later! by srblythe, on Flickr for this Now that was a long day! by srblythe, on Flickr This DSC_4876 by srblythe, on Flickr for this DSC_4773 by srblythe, on Flickr Swapped this Vauxhall Carlton 2.0 cd estate by srblythe, on Flickr For this DSC_4210 by srblythe, on Flickr Sold this DSC_4377 by srblythe, on Flickr for this Obligatory petrol station pic of latest purchase! by srblythe, on Flickr I have the logic that each car should have a different function and like to think I've got everything covered now, I've got a pickup, a reliable daily driver, A cool classic, a rwd car, a long term project etc. Sometimes I look back and think there's car I should have kept but mostly I'm happy with the stuff I've got...

I tend to suffer the same affliction. Couple of years ago had five cars within 12 months. Had my 96 for about six months and then advertised it when I saw a SWB Landie I was interested in. Eventually got a good offer on it but Landie was sold so kept the Saab. Since then have bought a rusty 240 GLT but was too much work so sold it on after a couple of weeks. Was going to look at another one this weekend but looks like it's sold. I'll will have had my 740 Volvo for three years in Feb 15 which is about the longest I've owned a car for years. No plans to get rid of it yet in fact might splash out and get some paintwork sorted this year. Saabs likely to be advertised in the next few months but needs a few bits sorted. Always on the lookout for something else. Currently fancy a Citroen XM but they are getting pretty rare. Would like another ragtop so am always on the lookout for a 916 Alfa Spider. Then there's always a XJ40, X300 jaguars, LS400, various Mercedes, Volvos, Saabs the list goes on. Life's too short to own too few cars.

I don't get bored of my cars I just get anger with them when they keep breaking down or cost way to much to fix but then there is the odd ones that I don't mind spending the money on my Chevette, Transit and G-Touring Corolla are the one I don't mind spending money on and as the G-Touring is the daily I want it to be in top condition which is why when something breaks its replace with uprated parts sort of the case with the breaks the front disk were worn and the rear drums were worn so I went bigger disks and twin pot brake calipers on the front and disk on the back

I don't think I get bored of cars as quick as some of you guys, but I do always find myself thinking of 'the next car'. I've gone back and forth between old fords and 80s/90s J stuff and had 1 or 2 cars every year. This is something I see in my thoughts. I get excited about going fast, so build a sports car thats raw and uncompromising, normally Mazda based for me, then after a few months tend to feel like 'theres more to lit than just thrashing about the place' and normally end up selling the sports car for a 90s coupe / classic thats usually italian. Then a few months later I decided that I've had enough of FWD and cursing about the place and I wanna go fast! It seems to go in circles. The other one I do is decide that I'm not doing too many miles at the moment, so I can afford to run a rotary daily driver, which I like but is curse word on fuel. Then invariably work changes and I need to do loads of miles so I sell up and get something more efficient, only to find that work stops and I'm dreaming of the rotary again. At the moment I've just finished building my rotary powered mx5, so as predicted I've just found I've got a whole bunch of work in London (200 mile round trip) coming up in January and I'm dreaming of having another 90s Alfa GTV….

Yeah I'm really bad for it. I've only ever had 2 cars I've kept for longer than 6 months. I've had 64 cars in 7 years.
Literally 2 weeks after I've changed, fixed the issues with it and taxed it, I'm back in eBay looking for the next victim.
I've even got my mrs changing car every 4 months now.
In the last 2 years I've had ( il just record the interesting ones )
Clio 182 trophy Ibiza cupra r Fiesta st Clio 172 Audi a3 quattro turbo Fiesta st Fiesta Rs turbo ( actually still got this, had it 5 years now, don't use it much as I feel like I'll die when driving it hard ) 530d msport ( my first auto ) Focus Rs mk1 Audi Tt 225
Got a caged up Clio cup as a Dailey now. Do obv as it's cold I'm looking at 320cd bmws lol

Every car I've bought (and there's been quite a few!) Has been a "keeper" then after a couple of years the itch starts again and I need something different. It generally happens when things start to go wrong my 924 is a keeper though...not bored with it, just curse word that a simple clutch cable change is proving to be a massive ballache

My other main hobby along with bikes/cars is playing guitar, with guitars I have always kept them a long time, I've got my first guitar here that I've had for nearly 30 years and a few other guitars I've had for 10-15 years. I'm not even that bad with bikes, I tend to keep them a couple of years. Cars I am worst with, I change all the time. I'm glad it's not just me that gets bored easily.

I get attached to all my (retro) cars and never want to part with any of them.if I get bored of one I just park it up for a coupla years and pull another one out to play with! the only thing that stops me having more cars is lack of space.my new years resolution every year is to reduce the fleet and just keep two of the special ones.it never happens because they are all special.lol

Seriously though, what are you looking for? I'm sure a psychiatrist could tell you.

Some of you people have serious problems! Seriously though, what are you looking for? I'm sure a psychiatrist could tell you. Probably loads of fun, pleasure, excitement and fulfilment as an alternative to sexual intercourse. I get very bored with my cars if I drive them too much. The Lotus gets used sparingly so, everytime I do take it out, it still feels fresh, exciting and a bit like it felt when I first saw it and drove it. The Scimitar is in the garage in bits and I'm beating myself up for buying it and I cant be arsed to work on it for now. I then think about having a nice XJ6, Wolseley 6/90 or 6/110 and consider selling both to fund them or selling one to buy an 80s Merc or one of a whole load of cars that catch my eye. I love cars, I adore cars and If I could Id own dozens at a time but I cant so, occasionally, when I'm bored driving what I have I sell it and buy something else to enjoy.............until I'm bored with driving it and I sell it to buy something else....
