Tbh I got totally fed up with the ford scene after 28 years, in the last four years prices have gone silly, and unfortunately the attitudes of some people in the scene became boring and predictable, mines better than yours, I can spend more than you to be build a car, well I'd had enough of that! Came here after buying my first non ford a scirocco then more recently my w202 mercs, this site is great, no big egos and plenty of different types of retro vehicles and all are accepted, I'm into 90s mercs and most other stuff on here, met some great people from here, and sold a few cars to some top guys as well,,,,,superb forum the best around for me

My good mate mercdan68 sums it right up. I too was into my Fords, and as much as I love them it all seemed to go mental. I am struggling to go further with this as I lost my Dad on new years day. This IS the best site I have come across. End of. The variety of quality cars and people here is epic. And unrivalled.

Err I was wandering in the internet wilderness as a Monza/Opel nut - there are some dedicated forums out there for people like me but in the main they tend to be "concours" type enviroments and as a result I'm a bit of a round peg in a square hole but I digress Back on topic I was googling images of Monzas and I found a picture of one with different wheels - from the picture I found the thread by PhoenixCand then lurked for a while - well actually quite a while...... then I decided I'd put a thread together about My Monza - well one of them

The 'Making Panels' thread got me here. I learned more from that than all the books I'd read on the subject. Then the mind numbing variety of cars, topics and even countries gets you hooked. Where else can you read about a Maserati, a collection of trolly jacks, pocket watch repairs, and the Tat Blog all in one place? It's compulsive.
I'm using this forum as yet another excuse for not having time to work on my own car...

For me it was probably the fact that no other forum had the mix of cars that RR has. To go from forums which are all one make, or are against modifying, and then to come across RR was almost mind blowing

Very sorry to hear that fella, my father-in-law passed away last week, is a hard time. As for what got me here? Well.... talking about Datsuns and Volvos on VZi didn't seem to be hugely popular or relevant, so...........

I saw the RRG (12/13 I think) coverage in the Retro Cars mag which led me to here. Lurked for a while then signed up, definitely the best of all the car forums because of the variety of stuff, the event coverage, tech advice, for sale section etc. etc. could go on all day..

I 'stumbled' across the forum when searching for info on old motors on Google.
Very soon after I bought my Merc 190E and I just stayed around. Met quite a few people now from the forum, bought and sold a few cars through here as well!
Although I don't post loads, I do visit everyday. It's actually the only car forum I use anymore..,.

From being a 16/17 year old who's mates considered anything older than five years old a bit naff when I was the total opposite and wouldn't entertain the thought of owning anything remotely modern. From there I eventually made some friends who today I consider as close a friend as anyone I've met in the 'real world' and all that comes from randomly signing up to a forum over 10 years ago. The fact that I'm still here over a decade later says it all really, it's been a constant in my life through good times, bad times, deaths, break ups and everything in between. Hell, if it wasn't for Retro Rides I wouldn't even be living with the girl I live with today, that's a sobering thought.

To be honest I needed some parts advice for my daily, a Hyundai Pony 1988. Somehow Edition38 were not that helpful and my car in general was laughed at (which I'm used to).
I've stayed here because you're all so easygoing compared to other forums / "scenes". Also I have grown tired of the VAG scene which follows the following formula:
New VAG car on finance + air suspension system + Rotiform wheels + ridiculous interior re-trim in luminous leather + full detailing service = scene hero.
The thing that annoys me the most about the above is that people that follow this formula rarely carry any of the work out themselves.
Whereas you all love the weird and wonderful and most of you have oil and grease under your fingernails.
