Ive been looking for a rear parcel shelf for my escort without much joy (unless i want to pay a fortune)
Ive had a thought about making my own but I'm unsure how to go about forming it as it curves up then down again to the rear screen. How would i bend it and make it stay like that?

To form ply and timber you would use a former and steam it to achieve a curve. I'm not sure hardboard would hold up to the moisture though.

Why not make out of fibreglass ? Would be a lot easier.

This shape? Fibre-glass would be good if you have something you could mould off - do you have the original shelf in a reasonable condition? Or you could form aluminium sheet to make a mould. Or even just use the shaped aluminium and cover it with vinyl or similar. That pic is for a part at £170. Is that what they go for? I need to start producing repro GRP parts. There's not £17 of GRP material in that.

I have the original one but it's damaged on one corner, I did think about making a grp copy but I wasn't sure how to stop it sticking to the original

Why not fibreglass the rear of the original to reinforce and make up the damaged corner ?

Pros use release wax. Packing tape is a cheap alternative if you're prepared to do some cosmetic work after you've a basic shape to work with.

I did think wrapping the shelf in tin foil first but packing tape is a good shout.
Cheers guys
