Certainly was mine! I can't believe it was 5 years ago.. here's the build thread: retrorides.proboards.com/thread/80703/1993-carlos-fandango-106-paintedI swapped it for an MX5 with some guy off here. He sold the banded steels, put some council spec orange 17" wheels on it, painted half the engine bay with an aerosol without masking anything then it ended up scrapped not long after.

It was one of those threads that further changed my originally blinkered outlook for the better Everything has potential

Having been in ChasR 's 106 GTi they are certainly very swift little cars, with a ' just-the-right-side-of-an-asbo' Janspeed Exhaust, its pretty naughty as well!

I used to own a 1993 106 1.4 Diesel many moons ago, It was pretty rubbish really with pedals that were so close that i ended up headbutting the steering wheel every time i changed gear, But i will say an early XSi model model be very welcome in my household, equally a Rallye model, I also recall Jeremy Clarkson raving on about the Phase 2 GTi when it first came out. Never had the pleasure of driving one of those though.

On the subject of 106's, whats the best 'non hot' one to get? The 1.5 TUD diesel is epic on fuel and IMO isn't dreafully slow, probably due to the fact they handle so well you don't need to brake lol. If want a petrol one they all have the same TU petrol engine in a variety of capacities, the 8v can suffer with HG failure between oil and coolant but other than that they are built proof and easy to work on. And yes 106/Saxos are cool!

I've been thinking about the 1.5, but every single non turbo diesel I've been in I've hated lol, what would the cruising speed be like? aslong as it'd do 70-75 it would be bearable

In terms of what they are like at motorway speeds, it's a small engined diesel French car so don't expect 5 series levels of refinement, but it'll do 70 all day long.

Yes, that car was pretty cool and a lovely handler! It didn't sound too bad either: IMO the 106 was one of the last Peugeots of old that were actually any good. Being a relation of the AX probably helped here. The 206 for me was a disappointment in comparison.

Getting back to the diesels, I loved the 106 1.5D I had. It wasn't that slow for a n/a diesel and they do handle really well. I would have another one easily. They will do 70 all day long, they aren't the most refined cars in the world but they serve a purpose and are extremely frugal.

Its a girls car ..... Not cool no matter how much you spend on it . . Some cars are born cool ... Could you elaborate on exactly why you think its a girls car?

Because by defining things he sees below him as 'girly' he gets to reinforce his (sub)conscious belief that women are a lesser species to men. *n

No . . Because I asked 15 people at work to vote on if it's a girls car or boys car or as I'm being gender correct these days if it was a gay boy or gay girls car
The vote came out as it's a girls car
Followed by gay boy
Then gay girl
Man's car only got 2 votes . .
