You can get the V5c without a VIN number fill out the form and enclose a letter explaining why you can't give the VIN and include a pic of the damaged VIN plate/ pressing. I have done this a few times without a problem.

I have done this a few times without a problem. Whatever you do kev, don't do this. Dunno if you saw on FB all the grief I had with the truck reg over its VIN, and I could tell them the format and 6 out of 7 digits, but the answer was still 'computer says no'. If i hadn't got a trade hpi through the back door off a mate of a mate, they were going to force me to re-register it because I couldn't give them ONE digit accurately. A cynic would have said its because they wanted the good plate off it to flog at one of their auctions and give me a worthless notransferrable one, now that have to turn a profit and all that.....

I must just be lucky having registered three cars in the last two years that had incomplete and in one case no VIN.

How on earth did you register a car with no VIN? the only way should be to get a new SABTVRO format chassis number issued and a q plate from my experience

How on earth did you register a car with no VIN? the only way should be to get a new SABTVRO format chassis number issued and a q plate from my experience re-reading the posts above, he didnt 'register' them, he got a replacement V5c. totally different thing. even then though, they refused to give me a replacement v5c for a car already registered to me, so i could 'check' my VIN was correct, unless i could give them the VIN that matched the reg... catch 22. what you have to remember is the DVLA are the enemy in cases like this, they're not there to help you. their recommendation of what to do in any given circumstance will be the course of action that puts most money in their pocket. that and they don't understand their own rules anyway.....

If it's still registered with DVLA try your local EuroCarParts...or PM me reg..lol How do you get the VIN number from ECP? ECP's part lookup system works on DVLA system and gives you 'short' version of HPI..(no number of owners, colour or reg changes, etc) only most info found in first column of second page on V5C. It's purely for VIN number purposes as in a lot of cases you need it for OE systems to check part, specs etc. Sorry for OT..

Sorry for the confusion as Dez correctly said I applied for a replacement V5c on cars that were already registered by the paperwork had been lost at some point. I can't find on the euro Car Parts site were it shows the VIN number only the make, model and colour or the car?

If you need or anyone it let me know. I've got access to older parts catalogue and can check it at home or on mobile, it works on reg check aswell. And yeah, Id trust the dvla not to make a mess of it....... ;p Don't ask how many times I see reg and than VIN that wouldn't even exist. Sometimes they just put random numbers or nothing on system. Especially when car goes and comes off private plate.
