I help run a small independent garage/MOT centre in Royston, Herts. It's owned by a taxi company with a fleet of over 30 taxi's/minibuses ect. I've not been there long myself, and the garage has always been primarily used to maintain/repair the fleet. I've been employed as manager to promote and build up the MOT and service/repairs of customers vehicles. It's working well, the first week I was there I did just 4 MOT's....4 months later I'm now working from 7am to 9pm most days to try and get it all done! Obviously I can't continue to work like that, I need a fully qualified mechanic that can carry out his/her duties using his/her own initiative and maintain a high standard of work. An MOT tester would be preferable but not essential as we're happy to send the newbie off on a course! Please let me know if you're interested or know someone that could be/is. Thank you. PS...Mods, if this thread is deemed "wrong" or in the wrong section please feel free to edit or move as necessary. __________________

;)Tenner a week and free membership of the Skoda Owners' Club G.B. ;D Nah, seriously the salary depends on experience, ability ect. It won't be megabucks obviously but it'll certainly compare to normal garage mechanics wages. Perks...usual garage perks, use of the workshop to repair your own car/s, parts at garage cost ect. We aren't the type of garage that regulates everything religiously, we're friendly and flexible and basically real life people working as a team.

dave there is a massive shortage of good mechanics now i,ive got two so called time served blokes working for me and at best they are fitters ,one of them went to sit the ntta exam for the testers course and got 22% overall and he has parts 1,2and 3 c+g 383 .testers want 25k round here and are constantly getting poached by other garages ,we do all the test work for a local fast fit branch because they cant find a tester to work for less than 23k . i know how you feel mate ive only been authorised since february and ive been testing on my own while my partner does the spannering, i do16 a day on my own so you can imagine the hours needed to do that this sums up the skill level at a lot of places ,the fast fit centre that we do the tests for have to use the manager to deliver the cars to us as all the staff in the workshop don't have full licences ;D
