Excellent. It's always good when you do a cheap fix and get something working.
Still have to crack on with my carbon bike frame, but moving house and being sick have slowed the set up of my garage.

The engine? It's going to make a full recovery!
Sounds good today.

I just put the alternator and serpentine belt on it. I ran it for 2-3 minutes and it sounds much better today. It idled rough at first but I think that has something to do with the poor earths I have clamped all over the place. That really makes a difference, it cleaned up after I checked them.. I still have to fill it up with antifreeze because it's now below freezing here. I'll do that tomorrow and let it reach temperature for the final test. I ran the diagnostic tool and now have no codes. If there's no trouble when I put coolant in it, it's a goodun innit?

JUST ADD WATER:
I ran it this morning. It might need a water pump because it doesn't seem like the coolant is circulating. I'm going to take the thermostat out and see if that helps flow. I'm not out of the woods yet. I haven't let it run long enough to see if it will overheat but the temp goes a bit high and the upper hose is firm while the lower hose remains soft. I also need to check the oil and make sure it's not mixing.
Here's how she sounds this morning:

I'm wrestling with the idea of welding up a support for the foot pedal box and the steering column so that I can drive it!
I can confirm that it is not mixing oil and water and it is running smooth and cool. Amazing, this was a cheap fix for something that had a broken connecting rod only a few weeks ago!

I got all set up for fabrication in the garage. I'm going to try and drive it. Typical Holiday season though- we've got family stuff, places to go and people to see. But Oh, I'm driving it.

Excellent stuff - I have visions of you being videoed tearing round your neighbourhood Mad Max style, complete with leather flying helmet and googles. Actually, having read that back, it makes you sound more like Snoopy after the Red Baron!

A code popped up, one of the coils is bad, but it's likely the plug wires because one of them is ruined inside of the boot, I just forgot which one. It's fine enough for now. It still sounds good and stays cool. I'll just leave this picture here and you can take a few guesses as to what's coming up: Metal Music shall be playing at a high volume.

Looks pretty road legal to me. Maybe a small round windscreen on the drivers side a la old one seater race cars to keep the bugs out of your teeth?
Oh, and mount the spare on the back Continental style.

the back yard is pretty big, plenty of room to test the tire spinning ability!
I Got ready to take it outside and make it move under it's own power but it wouldn't start! I double and triple checked all the loom connections, earths, spark etc. After about 2.5 hours I narrowed it down to no fuel. The tank was half full but the pump had taken leave of it's pumping abilities. Seized and shorted out, I took it out of the tank rather easily and ordered a replacement. Because of this time of year, it'll probably take forever to arrive.
I guess I'll have to go and get some bottled Christmas Cheer and straighten up the mess for a few days!

I have a line on two 1950's bodies, I just need to save up a bit of money first. I needed to get my truck in the garage for maintenance so I slapped the fuel pump in the tank and lo and behold, this happened:

Took it out back and tested it with the loud pedal:

Ok- My head about exploded when my buddy sent me this: This is a 1946 Dodge Power Wagon. This is what I had in mind, but this one is $4200 USD and honestly, that's fair for one of these. Over here, the Power Wagons have an iconic following and one of these with a Hemi engine in it running reliably, is worth a lot of money. There is a company that does modern conversions to a very high standard and sells them for $250,000! Mine would be a budget rat rod Hemi but still, I'm trying to see if I can work some magic, this would be perfect!

Ooooh. The wheels look big enough in the head on pic, but they definitely need to be much bigger from side on! What's the wheelbase like between the two?
|
|
|
|

|
Wheelbase on mine is 119.2 inches. WB on the Power Wagon is 126 inches. I would just shorten the bed. Probably. I don't really have money for a power wagon, but the chassis is parked and I'm saving up.
