Tow bars are a blessing for areas with tight parking. Always nice to see someone who thinks they are clever nudging your car driving off with a big hole in thier plastic bumpers. Doesn't help the front end but protects the back to an extent. That happened to use, left car parked, came back and someone had parked onto the towbar - cost us a trip to court to sort it out as they said we had reversed into their parked car with the towbar!!!! curse word up insurance paid them out at the last minute so it cost us an increased premium for their unwillingness to argue it. Bull bars are the way forwards in urban parking

If you did not do it, then they obviously have no proof & I would NOT have had it

If you did not do it, then they obviously have no proof & I would NOT have had it Fought it all the way up to going to court, but the insurance appointed solicitor wouldn't fight the case as they said "You have no evidence you didn't do it so would lose anyway" The other people had their relatives alledgedly witness the whole thing after quote "hearing a bang so loud they rushed out from the back garden", which means to me they obviously didn't see a thing and its bloody funny as their car alarm never went off and we didn't even know about it till they came round later. We informed the police at the time, made an official complaint about our insurer to the ombudsman and reported the other driver for fraud to the insurers. Didn't help though.

The real problem is that people are inherently stupid.

So frustrating. Says enough only too many people here experienced similar morons. I was once parked after getting something to eat at a McD when a woman smashed her car's door into mine (I was sitting in it for f sake) to get her kid out. I was more surprised than anything but pointed out she should be more careful. I'm too polite...clearly I am because she did it again 30 seconds after. In that case it was 'just' my €250,- daily. But geez.
Not just with cars, but goes for anything that's not yours. I never got that. I don't go running over your kid "because it's not mine and I really don't like the look of it" now do I?

This happened to me except it was the child smashing the door off my car, when I looked to the driver she just gave me a shoulder shrug and eye roll to say "oh kids eh" and drove off. I hate how careless some people are with driving and cars now days. Something entertaining on the matter though.

I keep reading people say the dash cams will invite people to smash the window to steal them but does anyone know of any being stolen, I have attended several cars where laptops, personal items and Satnavs have been removed by the dash cams haven't been touched.

I walked out of the services on the m6 coming back to my car, i was about 10 foot away and saw and heard the thud as someone door bashed my Capri getting out of an alfa, instantly I shouted what the F are you doing bashing your door into my car, i then noticed it was a woman and her fella who was getting out of the drivers side asked me what was up, i irately told him I don't take kindly to people opening their doors into my car, at that point he turned and ripped shreds off her as he didn't notice she had done it and he'd told her about it before, he apologised and insisted I take £20 from him for a beer as luckily it hadn't caused damage, i thought that was a stand up thing to do.

Happened to me a few years back, got back to my Laguna to find another car touching the rear bumper. Also I was a marshal on Rally GB, and returned to my car to find someone had damaged the front wing.

I must admit to having been the other way.... I parked my Metro in a space at a local supermarket, left plenty of room all round only to find modern BMW-driving bimbo had parked so close I could only just squeeze in, albeit by having to 'adjust' the side of her 1-series a bit....

Annoying, I got out of my car and started to walk away when this happened, van parked next to me cut it too fine, drove away having gotten out and seen what he'd done. Sign written vans are easy to remember, so I gave his boss a call. I don't think he has his job anymore. Sucks to be him. I'm clearly well within my space too.

I recently had to park (reversing into end on parking bays) in a very narrow space next to a brand new Teslar 4 door coupe, as I was starting to get out I noticed it was a) left hand drive (so driver door alongside driver door) and b) the driver was sitting in the car. I would have been careful anyway but when you've got an audience I was extra specially careful.
I once witnessed somebody put a serious dent in another car's door and drive off in a car park, wrote down the registration number and put it on the back of a business card and left it under the wiper of the damaged car. Got a phone call to say thanks.

I spent five minutes very carefully reversing into a town main street parking space in my E39, perfectly between the lines leaving a 18 inch gap evenly on both sides due to the other idiots that couldn't park leaving it very tight - no parking sensors to guide me - and got out with my hand around the door edge to make sure I didn't scratch the next car.
Came back half an hour later after brunch just in time to watch someone who had parked next to me cut the corner far too tight, ram into my front corner, dent their door, get stuck on the car and have to reverse off, then drove away.
Claimed to have looked around, not seen anyone, "not known what to do", and drove on - this he claimed to the police. "thought he'd get away with it" was my interpretation, policeman agreed, and I have his details now but as it's my beater unsure whether its worth chasing for a front bumper repair, E39s stand up to accidents better than peugeots thats for sure.

Chase or he'll carry on doing it, (driving off after causing damage) and the next time it might not a beater he hits!

Locally in Ipswich a bloke watched a woman with a tribe of kids say nothing as her kids smashed the door of their beat up old people carrier into his new BMW. He said nothing, watched them go in the shop, then screwdivered all four of her tyres.
When the story appeared on social media later with the woman crying outrage the BMW driver saw it and replied with his side of the story and how she should teach her kids respect for other people's property. Pretty much unanimously all the following posters praised the BMW driver.
If we all took this approach maybe, just maybe, the monkeys would start to learn.

Exactly the same damage happened to my big bumper mk2 in tescos - a lady told me the company name on side of van, who advertised on there website trackered vans, rang company and they said no proof - curse word off basically.

Mrs Pistonpoppers Thunderbird was involved in a brawl while she was shopping in Tesco, she called me up so I could see exactly where she'd parked it. When I got up there I was pleased to see that a security camera was pointing straight at it. So I calmly went in to ask them if I could see the footage and see if I could get a copy of the film for insurance purposes. Only to be told that the security cameras in the car park are all dummies, and are just there as a deterrent... that clearly doesn't work lol! I can laugh about it now, but I was pretty ticked off at the time!
