Hi all
Building a project on a Reliant Scimitar chassis using a home built tube frame body. Looking for an engine and gearbox for it. Aquired a Ford Cologne 2.9efi V6 but it as no ecu or wiring loom key chip and finding one is a nightmare.
So I am looking at alternatives
1. Go back to Essex V6 2. Look at something like 2.0 Fiat TC 3. Some thing more modern.
Any one any thoughts and know of any thing out there. Must be complete not going through the hassle of trying to find parts to make it work.
Thanks
Rich

I would not bother with a Fiat twincam . Parts are few and far between and very expensive , even before reworking .

I have a Eunos import motor, box, ect for sale (probably who is being referenced above) it's probably enough for a scim as its got a megasquirt ECU to run it which makes an excellent torque curve. Plus always the option to hop up to a 1.8 motor too.

Hi Rich
Must admit I am very tempted. The special I am building will hopefully be quite a bit lighter than the Scimitar, guessing around the tonne mark. If I remember right the MX5 is rated about 110-115 bhp so no a lot of difference there. Starts to look promising.

If you do fancy the fiat twin cam idea, I have a good 2.0 engine and gearbox with just about everything needed to get it running. I have two different gear selectors for the gearbox as well which might help with gear lever positioning, one is an abarth extended shift housing I believe.
As mentioned above, I'm afraid it won't be particularly cheap, but they do have a bit of character!

Got a 300bhp Lexus v8 vvti engine and box sat in the garage.
Also have ecu, fuse box, loom plugs etc.
Was destined for my scimitar but DVLA rodded me instead!

The ECU apparently has a lot more room for power potential, it's a powerful but safe map..

Might be interested in the cologne if it's cheap and otherwise complete

Hi Dodgerover
The Cologne is complete with the engine wiring up to the square connector block and I also have the down pipes. Its a complete engine and auto box out of a Ford mk4 Granada/Scorpio 87/88.
Price wise make me an offer.

Whereabouts are you please? Any idea on the mileage or condition of the box?

Hi
I was told that the engine had done about 60k - 70k but I have no way of proving it. The engine and box came very clean and looked as if it had been well looked after.
I am bsed near Southam roughly half way between Coventry and Daventry.
Hope this helps.

You may be missing an ecu for the 2.9, But it would not have had an immobiliser or need a key chip, the PATS system wasn't fitted till 94 / 95 MY onwards...
Only car I could think of with 2.9 and pats would be the 'bugeye' Scorpio ?
