Is bloody difficult! I use mine and obviously it needs maintaining. So right now it needs inner tie rods and outer rods, these are £210 from the stealers. 2 engine mounts another £££. Pads and discs (I won't moan at this) a clutch (bog of a job) and welding. All this will make it lovely again but it's just sooo damn expensive. Also the parts are a nightmare to get. Main dealers do it all but the tax is high! Anyone else got a daily that just doesn't add up? Mot coming up in about 8 weeks so I got a lot if working in the cold and spending to do Terry

Just had a look on the Ford website, a new Focus ST is £23k. If you had that on finance, then you would be looking at £400 a month or so over 5 years? I have no idea I have never had a car (or anything else) on the never never.
So, for every month you don't spend £400 on your Mondeo you are better off, plus you have the satisfaction of keeping an older car on the road.
As for working in the cold, call it character building or something.

don't go to the dealers for stuff like this unless you are trade and get big discounts.

just had a quick browse, you could do discs pads track rods and ends for less than £200 easily, probably much less with a discount code.

Err surely it not being the easy route IS the whole point ? Why would you go to dealers? non OE tie rods are under £50 for all 4. Parts are a nighgmare? are they really a nighmare? on a mondeo LOL try popping into a spares shop for parts for a cortina, i own both and trust me the mondeo is a peace of curse word to get parts for! even compaired to my sierra the mondeo is a breeze to order parts for. I agree on the clutch though but then again trust me there are way worse clutches to do ! try a megan scenic or a passat where the clutch is £500 (4part) before you even turn a bolt, oh and they are both more modern

Subframe, lower arms, Shocks, springs, roll bars, etc etc are not the same as the others. Euros claim to stick items but they don't. button Power don't. It's main dealer or fordpartsuk.com (but they're not stocked very well)

Welcome to old (ish) car ownership. I'm not entirely sure what you expected. Try putting 25K in two years onto a piece of the finest BL tin, then get back to us.

if you think the ST is bad try running and owning an oddball mercedes, £150 Each for rear brake Disc's £200+ vat for a distributor cap £90+ vat for the rotor arm £1,286 + vat for the HT Lead set!!!
at least your ford dealer knows what car it is, i went to ford years ago looking for mk2 granada parts there computer system never even listed the granada yet alone any parts for one then there was the 2.9 xr4x4 sierra, try finding front (down pipe) sections

i know how you feel ford can be a right pain, good thing is it seems the price of the ST's are rising so worth keeping one more on the road maybe as and when you can pick up some st specific parts when they come up for sale,

St200 has lots of bits that were unique to it and still the usual mk3 Mondeo issues so I can see where the pain comes! Is it worth it? Well knowing you have something that rare with a blue oval on it only means one thing in the long term......... prices will rise and it will achieve the usual blue oval market, not to rwd levels but it'll get up there..... look at xr3i's, xr2i's and Mondeo Si's all hard to find in good condition and fetch a pretty penny now.

Have you got on turbosport or passion ford? Very helpful chaos and they may be able to point you in the direction of a cheaper alternative.
I had it many years ago with a imported Toyota, needed a droplink, they were about £80 a pair. After talking with a few people it turned out that (ironically) ford Mondeo items for £20 were a direct fit and left £60 in my pocket.
Might be worth asking on there. But yes I do fee your pain, had an M3 years ago and a full set of discs and pads were over £1000!!!

It's main dealer or fordpartsuk.com (but they're not stocked very well) I know but the parts you listed are as i said are available elsewhere for cheaper cos they are rhe same as standard mondeo, my answer still stands, only a few parts are expensive/hard to get most are cheap and easy to find. I know about the lower arms, ARB ect and i feel your pain there ! £130 each is a bit steep for a lower arm but not that steep concidering the cost of many merc parts, in your case it's cos you have a rare spec car not cos you have an old car, as a already said i run a mondeo curse word easy compaired to my sierra or cortina. Yes old cars can be a pain to keep running but like i said that's half the reason, WE can fix them Sorry if sounded a bit off hand but TBH you cherry picked the items that cause you issues then moaned on a site where your ST is probably one of the newer easyer cars to run as a daily, you think you have issues! try keeping 95% of the rides on here on the road ! then you get to moan about it (friendly dig, i own a mondy as well) I have to say the mondeo is vey VERY under supplyed as far as forums go, i'm on 3 and get more chat on here than on the mondeo specific ones

Main dealers do it all but the tax is high! Anyone else got a daily that just doesn't add up? Mot coming up in about 8 weeks so I got a lot if working in the cold and spending to do Terry To summarise: The TREs you may be able to get from ECP and with a decent brand against them too: www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Ford_Mondeo_2.5_2000/p/car-parts/steering/suspension-and-steering/track-rod-and-track-rod-end/?606590785&1&c151102d997b821370ee02c5dd1d9a643065d9ae&000347As for the pads, Bosch pads are less than £30. The clutch from experience is a fair point, and from another Ford V6 user ; I would not recommend fitting an LUK clutch ; both cars snapped the spider on the centre plate in a short amount of time, but a clutch is not much more from Ford anyway. But yes, it is not a cheap job. Welding, what needs doing to it? Would you be fitting the parts yourself, bar the clutch? If it makes you feel any better my Clio needed a cambelt this time last year. It cost probably close to £300 just in parts alone (that is for the cambelt kit, auxiliary belt kit and in my case a dephaser pulley ; mine was rattling badly. This necessitated an oil change as well. With labour I will not say what the bill came out to, but it was probably cheaper than what yours will be for the above!
