Hello everyone!
I'm sure some of you have imported your cars from within the EU. What were your main 'concerns' and issues? How much did you tend to spend on imports?
So for me, here is what I can see going wrong: the inability to see the car in person. This means some scoundrel will sell me a rust bucket without me knowing. And I checked: private sellers =/= companies (duh!) so I don't have any rights. AFAIK even the credit card law thing won't apply here.

I'm a Lada fan, and I really want one of their splendid cars ( ) Lithuania seems about right actually. Or on the way: Poland. Basically, it's just to get a grasp of what can be done. Sadly, I don't have much money, so the holiday option might be a no-no. I'm dabbling in a very expensive hobby here as a not wealthy person, but I bet you the results are worth it.

A lot of things are possible when you're focussed. I'm sure you'll start reading the great threads here on the trips people have made to get what they have dreamed about. Opportunities do come around when you least expect it. Just stay positive and work hard.
Lot of lada love here so you may find what you want is already here so only a bus/train ride away...
Poland is inexpensive to fly to (skyscanner is a great app) if it fits in with a time you're off etc... and depending where in Poland you stay it's very reasonable. I've been several times. Long weekend in Warsaw (old town) was £130 all in - ate alot. Tram was cheap to get around etc... and this is an 'expensive' city in comparison to the rest of the country.

Yeah I hope something in my budget does come up here in the UK but I can't help but wonder if there are cheaper ones in better condition elsewhere. As a kid, I watched Top Gear and part of me died seeing those beautiful old cars just breaking after 1 day use. I really want to make sure whatever I get can lost for as long as possible!

Owners clubs are the way to go, as members in Europe are sometimes willing to help out. I had a good contact in Prague who was willing to help me find a Trabant, until one popped up in London.
Just make sure you fill in the NOVA within 10 days of bringing the car in, or you're liable to a £5 per day fine!

My wife's from Latvia. I always have a look on ss.lv. Be careful though, some cars don't always have the documents. Nearly got a mk2 escort for peanuts but had no docs. Every time we go there I want to bring some car back. Saw an old fella driving a mk1 golf, mint as well. But he wouldn't sell.

On the Lada thing, I know years ago spares were virtually unobtainable, I don't imagine this has changed?
