Hi guys,
have a pinto with a fast road cam, k&n and 4 branch, but the problem is that most of the time when i turn my engine off, it will bur bur bur and try to start back up and some times does and then shuts down?
any ideas? i soaked the piston tops in red ex today just to break up any carbon if there is any.
Thanks

I presume to soak the pistons you have taken the plugs out so no build up on them as that was a common problem carbon growth on the plugs staying hot and igniting the fuel. I also remember Ford fitting a little valve that used to live on the inner wing and connect to the inlet manifold via a pipe to stop the engine running on. It looked like a little microphone and I think it allowed air in once the engine was shut off.
Other thing to try is to see if it happens if you try and stop the engine by earthing the points (-ve) side of the coil. This will rule out a wiring / coil problem if the engine still runs on.

Another way to stop it is as you switch it off let the clutch up in gear to stall it. Be aware it will be running on backwards so the car might lurch back.

I never new of any valve on these that do that :s where abouts would i specifically be looking as it has a 32/36 dgav carb on it?
i was also told that as it runs backwards, it can cause damage such as knock a hole in the piston or damage the engine :0
Thanks

The round bit that looks like an old style condensor on the side of the carb is the antirun on valve, there should be a wire running to it that is live with the ignition on.
Don't let a 4 stroke engine run backwards.

just had a look and i don't think they came with one. it's in a ford capri. I have booked the car into a rolling road for next month hopefully they can sort it out for me.
but i'll keep this posted about my outcome with the redex as i still yet to blow it out. I was going to spin the engine with the plugs out just incase if it causes damage if it fires up.
Cheers

I've had this problem with High compression pintos if your using regular unleaded try using super unleaded, and as for carbon build up redex dose work but I've water works just as well and it's loads cheaper, with the engine hot hold the engine at about 2000rpm and dribble water down the carb and I do mean dribble lol till the engine starts to die the let it recover and repeat about a pint should do it, I done it to my Granada and the difference it made was amazing, an old chap told me when I was an apprentice I thought he was taking the curse word but he wasn't and it really does work, You should check Spark plugs, carb adjustment and ignition timing to
