Ok on Thursday I was pulling out of a petrol station I was looking up the road nice big gap went to pull out and the car in front of me didn't go my fault 100% and this is what happened :-( I'm absolutely gutted inner wing is all creased But I've been told but people in the Granada guild it can be fixed so fingers crossed, I'm thinking the insurance company will right it off cat c or cat d and I will buy her of the insurance company and get her fixed hopefully there will be enough money to sort the damage plus the other repairs that need doing, I can't tell you how upset I am I saved up for 2 years to buy this car I've been a big fan of old fords since I was a kid, but divorce and bankruptcy ment I couldn't afford to own an old ford until two years ago I got my life back on track so I saved and sold my daily driver to buy the Granada, hopefully she will be sorted soon,

No idea haven't got that far yet, I'm just wondering how much you could do yourself ? Will the metal just pop out back into place? If so, you might just escape with just replacing a few small items. Best of luck mate!

bit beyond popping back into place
i thnk you will need to at least do some of this yourself unless you have plenty of £££££ to wave around , isnt too bad on the scale of things if you can find the parts

I would steer clear of the insurance & just get it repaired yourself

Well worth doing if the rest of the car is good. Do NOT let the insurance company take it away to 'value it'. Get it recovered to your own property and tell them to come to you. Hope it all works out.

I feel your pain mate, as has already been said though I'd try and fix as much as I can myself, and try and pay for the other cars repairs. I'd probably try to avoid a claim if poss.

The insurance company can't find anyone to repair her because of lack of parts, I have to send photos to them and there going to get an engineer to asses the damage Which he will probably have the same problem so I'm sure they will just declare it a right off which is the way I won't it to go as I think I'll get more money out of them that way I'll then opt to keep her and use the remaining money to fix her, she's never been welded and only a few cosmetic blemishes so I won't let them fob me off with a £1000

Unfortunately I've got no choice but claim or I just won't have the money to fix her, Ive never claimed before in the 18 years I've been driving so it's about time I got some money back lol

I'd be interested to know your next insurance premiums or the % they've increased by after the claim.

Be very careful that you can retain salvage on it before committing to anything, it's also not unknown for them to suddenly wildly inflate the salvage value when it comes time to buy it back. How much damage was done to the car in front?

was it agreed value? if not don't be expecting alot
i agree i would have kept quiet and stumped up for the repairs , no garage or engineer is going to find the parts for 30 year old car , its up to you to get on the forums and owners clubs and chase down some good used parts or maybe a few original panels

First thing I checked was if I could keep it, they said the only time I can't keep it is if it's cat a or b Her car didn't look as bad as mine but I think the bumper hid most of the damage

When my Sunbeam was written off (I skidded on black ice into the path of a bus) insurance company refused to let me buy back the salvage. The only way I could have kept the car was to not claim for it's written off value. I'd say that is £1000 damage if repaired professionally (straighten inner wing, source new outer wing, headlight, indicator bumper, endcap, labour and paintwork)

Thats a major bummer But nowhere near as bad as mine was. The inner wing will more than likely pull straight with a body dozzer, the main wing is bolt on and new ones are available from motomobil, or tickover I believe. And theres also fibreglass ones available for a ton each As above, make sure the insurance don't take away and you have somewhere safe off road to store it

No it wasn't agreed value, but the do recognise it as a classic car, I assume they go on market value and we all no your not going to get a road worthy mk2 Granada that's never been welded for less then £3000
