Does anyone here know whether their insurers offer laid-up insurance, specifically for my bike ? I've just returned from overseas,& my bikes come back too. I'll not be using it over the winter, but I'd still like it insured, as it's quite valuable. I've chatted to my current ( other bike) insurers & one other, who don't offer this cover. Just wondering if anyone here has this cover already & can pass on their insurers details. Thanks, in advance.

is it not just worth putting it on a normal policy, with lower annual milage? i pay so little for bike insurance i couldnt be bothered to seperatly lay it up, and still build up no claims whilst its sitting there doing nothing.

I've done a bit more asking / digging, & have had a couple of quotes. I was offered laid up insurance ( with no on road activity obviously), for £9 more than I had been quoted to insure it fully comp, with 5k miles limit !!! Think that sort of answers my own question really eh ??

Don't know your circumstances but I'm 46 & pay around £70.00 a year for limited mileage (5k I think) for my 2001 Fazer 1000. Never pay for extras that bump it up. I see insurance as a necessary evil to keep you on the right side of the law. I'm convinced it's nothing more than that. I don't think I could get it any cheaper. I can add my FZ750 for around 50 quid more. Bennet's have been reasonable, Carole Nash are alright if you don't mention modifications. MCN comparison site is fairly good but then so is Confused, Go Compare etc.

If you insure it as a road legal, taxed bike and its laid up then it anything happens they could refuse to pay out.
the reason laid up cover can be more is that the bike is always in the same place so an easier target for anyone wanting it whilst you are at work etc but if it road legal then just get normal cover.

And should the unthinkable happen and you injure someone causing them life changing injuries it provides for them for the rest of their life. Otherwise an insurance claim for (as in the example of a family member - loss of function from the neck down) could run into millions for which you would be liable. People forget that the victims of road accidents may need specialist care and facilities for decades. That's what insurance is for. |

I believe Footman James do laid up cover, they also do multi bike policies for not much money which cover collections etc which are laid up for 99.9% of the time.
I assume Peter Best? Peter James? will also offer this.
